which civ should i play next? i really like the religious trait, but i also like science and industrious.

special units for both are actually about the same, except one needs horses.

il let you guys decide.

I'll take Babylon as well. Scientific is a great trait, and if you are planning on switching governments often, Religious helps too, especially for those Temples.

What type of game do you want to play? Space, conquest/domination, 100k, 20k? What level? What's your playstyle like in general? What level do you want to play at with what sort of map conditions? Do you have a few game saves for us to look at to get a sense of your playing style for perhaps better advice for you (instead of creamcheese's suggestion... which might border on sadism)

Babylon. Play for 100k culture. You'll be pleasantly surprised at all the cheap buildings. Their UU is mediocre or even bad, but that is not their real strength.

I'm a little confused. With the cheap buildings for all cities, it seems Babylon would do best for a 20K victory? Although they're a little better at 100K, 20K would seem to be their specialty. Am I missing something?

For conquest or domination, I think it's about even. Neither is ideally suited to that victory condition.

For Space, maybe Babylon?

This all assumes C3C. If it's vanilla, Egypt would be my choice for all except 100K.

I think Spoonwood was just talking about the length of the game. I think of myself as a patient player and even I consdier suicide somewhere around 1250 AD on a culture game. :D

You only build 1 library, 1 university, a temple, and a cathedral basically in a 20k game (and maybe 1 research lab). In a 100k you put in multiples of these (except maybe the university). So, the 100k probably suits Babylon better overall, though they certainly do make a strong choice for a 20k game, since they have a higher probability of getting SGLs and they have a shorter revolution.

i always play conquest/domination games

Then, why not militaristic and religious? With the Celts or the Japanese you would have a lot of fun. Or else, Aztecs on small/tiny map, to try an ultra-early conquest with jaguar warriors.

well the religious traits cancel each other out.

so you're left with industrious vs scientific and war chariot vs bowman.

i have to say that the war chariot is more aggresive, it's a cheap horseman but needs roads. the bowman is more of a deterrant, although a stack of 10-15 of them will rip through anything that isn't greece or carthage. so they're about equal here.

scientific's cheap libraries, free techs and increased chances of a free leader beat out quicker and more effective use of tiles, largely because the same effect can be achieved with more workers.

so i'll take babylon over egypt, ta.
