eldar07 : Following Bad Advice (Emperor 5CC with ICS spacing)

I'm not going to be able to contribute much until next week. We have a birthday tonight and then I'm off for a weekend of camping and fishing.

Don't worry, I'll be here to the very end.

How stupid am I? I've just been playing a solo game, having totally forgotten that I'm up here. I'll blame it on a tough week having scrambled my brain. I'm playing now though...

50AD (0)
A little bit of mm to increase income but it looks great from what I can see.

IT
Barca: horse>horse
Toledo: treb>treb
Barbs appear out of the fog S of our gems.
(Chinese enter the MA.)

70AD (1)
Army moves on Hangchow. Other forces head for Shanghai, ignoring the archer that slips out.

IT
Madrid: cath>galley (getting it to 15spt)
Seville :horse>pike
Santiago: MDI>pike (pikes to clear out barbs-also switch Barca to pike.)

90AD (2)
Horse kills the barb threatening our gem colony. MDI moves on the camp to attack it next turn.

Assault on Shanghai: First MDI kills 3/3 spear; the second loses to a reg spear that gets promoted to 4/4; the third razes the town. Another MDi attacks the runaway archer, is reduced to one hp but is promoted to elite status as it kills the archer.

Sword army kills two spears in Hangchow but is held out by the archer. Hopefully next turn...

MDI kills the sword that moved out of the Chinese capital.

110AD (3)
MDI clears barb camp.

Hanchow has not been reinforced so the sword army attacks the archer, razes the town and takes another four slaves. Chinese are down to one town. Swords/MDI move on the capital but it'll take another two turns to attack.

IT
Madrid: galley>galley
Barca: pike>pike
Toledo: treb>harbour

130BC (4)
Vet galley attacks 1/2 barb galley and only just wins! Troops march to the gates of the the final Chinese city.

IT
Dutch and Hittites sign PT.
Seville: pike>pike
Santiago: pike>pike

150AD (5)
Troops backed with the first pike start barb clearing in the West.

Attack on Tientsin: Vet MDi loses out to reg spear. Elite MDI kills spear, elite sword kills reg archer, elite sword attacks the wounded spear and the Chinese are eliminated.

Now to get overseas...

I can now reduce lux to 10%.

(Barbs are all over the place!!!)

I get the Dutch to redeclare on the Hittites for 9gpt.

IT
Madrid: galley>galley
(Korea has Invention)

170AD (6)
Two galleys attack two 1/2 barbs and lose only one hp between them. Hopefully they will last the counter attack from the third 1/2 galley in the IT.

IT
Galley surves and becomes elite. two more barbs show up.
Barca: pike>MDI
Toledo: harbour>galley

190AD (7)
A bit of barb attacking

IT
Barbs bite on our pikes and we get an elite.
Madrid: galley>galley
Seville: pike>pike
Santiago: pike>pike

210AD (8)
Another barb galley bites the dust and our galley stays out in the open to attract the other barbs to come take a look.

IT
Chivalry and Invention become well known. GLib to kick in next turn...

230AD (9)
More barb killing...

IT
We get Inv and Chiv.
Madrid: galley>galley
Toledo: galley>galley
Zulu start to build KT.

250AD (10)
Kill another barb galley and leave it there to hopefully attract some more.

Clear a couple of barb camps-the second one was finished off with a pike so he should go elite from the counter in the IT.

comments:
We have a few galleys now but we'll need stacks more as we haven't got safe passage across the water so IMO Madrid and Toledo must remain on galley production. Feel free to stop the pikes if you wish but I thought that we need to keep the passage from Madrid to our crossing point barb free and they are the cheapest/most effective way IMO. We'll also need a few in our landing party. The good news is that the Zulu don't appear to have any iron so our MDIs are as useful as knights vs Impis.

I would post a roster but I don't know if eldar skipped or swapped

Hmm, I'm sure I posted saying I was back and could now play... I guess I just d/l'd the save and forgot to post!

Ok, my suggestion doesn't seem to be going over very well.

We've got two plays for the previous 10 turns. What's the solution?

If eldar also played the turnset that I did, then we can carry on from his save if he wants. After all he set up the game. If we do that though I'll have to be skipped as I have no spare time for the rest of the week. (Also maybe we can get a mod to delete my post if we do this otherwise it'll get confusing.)

Well, school is over, and my schedule has really opened up, so I'm availble whenever.

What is our plan for our next set? Cause more wars on the other continent, while building up a fleet of boats and setting up some more infrastructure? Or head straight over and start nailing people to the wall?

I didn't actually play the set - I just forgot to post a "got it" :D So no confusion....

ROSTER:
eldar - Up
SipTheSoup - Still cooking up a storm.
jb1964 - chillin' w/ a fishin' pole
Tone - Set done

Eldar, are you OK w/ the swap?

Yep, no worries. Hopefully I can play tonight, depends how well behaved the wife/daughter behave, and it's the final of The Apprentice....

'twas the final, so Posh Git Simon was hired... tonite and have hands full with baby last couple of days but Sat mornings are usually quiet ropynd here so I should be able to play then!

Greugh. Whatever I'm ill with it's stopped my brain from working.

You want someone else to take it? Or do you still got it?

Take as much time as you need. No rush.

Sip, I would give eldar until Sunday at least if you don't hear anything. He sounded as if his hands were pretty full.

It's fine w/ me if this SG moves at a slow pace. I've got my hands full w/ the Multi Player game.

Are you in on that?

Nope. I'm fairly out of the loop here.

What is your role in it? (assuming its that big democracy-type game)

Okay, playing now. Build boats and build some more boats, right?

T0 250AD We have enough slaves for workers. So I'll merge some natives to shave off some supports costs. Ugh! One of the boats was left with 2/4 moves, please don't do that, I though it had full movement and it's finished in the sea.

T1 260AD The boat survives. We have the largest population. The Koreans and Zulus have allied against the Hittites. Let's have a look at the big picture, shall we?

eldar07_260AD_diplomacy.JPG

T2 270AD Not much.

T3 280AD Korea and Zulu ally against us. A Dutch galley appears off the south coast.

T4 290AD Portugal and Zulu peace.

T5 300AD Very little.

T6 310AD Portugal and Korea ally against us. Hittites build ToA, Korea builds Sun Tzu. I have 2 sets of 9 slaves going round planting forests now that all our cities are at size 12 (and all of them are working 12 tiles).

T7 320AD The cascade falls... Dutch build GH, Portugese get KT. Everyone's now building Leo's.

T8 330AD Uneventful.

T9 340AD Nothing happened.

T10 350AD Dull.

The end position:
eldar07_350AD_shipchain.JPG

I'd like to see 6 boats land units (12 in total) in our first wave. However that will need approx. 18 in total: 12 on the "chain" square (50% of which should survive) and 6 with units in. Couple of Pikes, 3-4 'trebs (swap Knight builds), the rest Knights/Maces.

How about selling the 'rax in Madrid as it'll be on boat duty for the foreseeable.
