Elimination or Conquest

I just got mugged by the AI! The maya brought 3 warriors against a city that I had 1 warrior in. They took the city and that ended my game. Is that because I had conquest enabled or elimination enabled?

That would be elimination (at least I think- I've never actually played elimination before), conquest victory is where you destroy all opponents and thus take over the world.

Yes, it is Elimination. Conquest is the victory condition.
