So, we can have the whole world embargo a civilization through the World Congress, so why can't we embargo individual civs on our own? Maybe I DON'T want Genghis opening trade routes with my cities just so that he can fund an army that can be used to attack me later.

You should even be able to goad AI players into embargoing other players, and doing joint embargoes and such that.

Granted, an embargo should have potentially severe diplomatic penalties. It should be much harsher than a denouncement, and it could potentially lead to war quickly.

Personally, I think it would be fun.

If he's sending his caravan's and/or cargo ships directly into your territory, why don't you just plunder his trade routes?

That would be an act of war, at which point you're way past embargos.

I too would like to see a "cold war" type of embargo. If there's something disappointing about BNW, it's that the features are self-driving. I can't regulate how others do trade with my cities, and that's a little disappointing.

Fair point. I wouldn't mind it being made a diplomatic request, like "Stop spying on us" and "Stop settling cities near us." Requesting this would cancel any trade routes they have with you and prevent them from establishing new ones with your cities for a while.
