Embassies?

Some of the articles mentioned the addition of embassies in the upcoming XP.

How do you think this will be implemented?

I hope establishing embassies with other civs will make us better friends. Or perhaps it will give some trading benefits?

I hope embassies will give us more interesting diplomatic options/more depth.

They might handle it like Civ3 embassies, fwiw.

Well some obvious things
1. increases ease of spying (cost)
2. allows certain treaties (benefit)

You mean as a prerequisite to trade with minor nations and to allow alliances with major nations?

I would like Embassies but I would also like a whole set of Diplomatic options. Proxy wars etc.

My thoughts exactly.

Though I hope, just like Bechhold, that you get additional diplomatic options. I think the Civ3 embassy only bloked several options that, in previous versions, was already available without an embassy (say, you couldn't do a trade embargo without an embassy, while in the pre-Conquest versions you could - I might be wrong though). So hopefully it doesn't turn out that we'd have to build an embassy to be able to make DoF's - new options please!
