Embassy to the Amazons

Unless you guys have anything more to input on this, I'll try to write up a suggestion for an alliance to the Amazons and post it here to you so you can evaluate/comment/suggest.

Thank you very much for your kind words, Bowsling - they are very much appreciated! :)

What are we after in any kind of alliance? What does it actually mean? The two teams are building their spaceships and each is five turns from launch... what happens next.

While we should be entirely polite about it, we can't agree never to put espy pts against Amazon, as that would legislate an inequitable situation -- that they must always have full visibility over our empire, while we have no visibility over theirs.

I still feel the team is a bit quiet. I miss more feedback from you guys, as I find it difficult to handle everything and retain confidence that I am doing the right thing.

There's really not much I can contribute from the current situation. The game is so hamstrung by the ETTT killing diplomacy, and the long history of interactions between the teams that I'm not aware of. All the mixing's been done, this game's just in the oven waiting while it bakes...

(I'm not able to advise militarily -- I'm always a time-pressed player and even in SP that means I tend to go non-military to save the real-world hours of pushing all the units around.)

What we primarily are after in an alliance, for now, is the elbowroom to actually go to war with CDZ. What Amazon will gain from it may be an interesting question, as I know the Amazons were not very happy about having to give away 2 of the cities they had conquered from Merlot HI to CDZ as CDZ's contribution to the war vs Merlot was miniscule compared to what the Amazons had to invest. Perhaps they aim to reap some benefits and cities from such a war themselves?

Something I was not entirely aware of, but was made aware of by Sommerswerd in a pm between him and me just after i joined Team Q is that the ETTT does not restrict any military operations. Simply put - the ETTT is not a military non-agression pact of any sort. The ETTT only makes all participants obliged to share their research with all the other teams that are part of the ETTT. In other words, even in a war situation with CDZ, CDZ is still obliged to grant us any tech they have researched. And this is what I believe the Amazon is counting on. If team CDZ refuses to give us tech in a warsituation, they are breaking the ETTT. If they do break the ETTT they will put themselves in the same situation Sirius did - and look what that gained Amazon (even though it was touch and go for a few turns).

So yes, while the game is hamstrung by the ETTT, it still gives military elbowroom.

In regards to the espy thing. I agree that we should make a strong point of the fact that they can see all our cities and operations while we cannot see theirs, and that this makes an already exisiting imbalance (they are more than twice our size) even more profound. I think we all agree that we want to be their ally - not their vassal.

I sent off this message to Sommerswerd:

Hello

We have noticed that Team CDZ are producing Hollywood in the city of Or Here. This is not acceptable for us, as this will make the situation on Hoag even more difficult, so I have set Continuum to produce the Hollywood. It will complete in 9 turns, while Or Here will complete it in 11 turns.

I have also set up Resonance to build the United Nations.

Please inform me if Team Amazon claims either of these wonders - and if you claim Hollywood please give me reassurances that your team can and will complete it before Team CDZ does, as it is critical to Team Quatronia that Team CDZ does not build Hollywood in Or Here.

Thank you
