I am really confused about how your ranking is tallied at the end of the game. No matter how well I think I finish a game, I'm rarely ranked a notch or two above Dan Quayle when it's all said & done. I can have the highest time rating, biggest population, land area, GNP, etc., but still rank near bottom. I thought playing at harder levels would help, but I won my first game as Prince & I was still second to last on the rankings. I usually score between 3,000 - 4,000. Has anyone had this problem & know what the trick is to being ranked higher?

Thanks!

Theres a few factors that go into your ranking.

1. The first and foremost is when you win. The earlier the win, the more points you gain at the end game. There is some multiplier/factor/exponent in the equation for each level that boosts your score based on when you win. So early victories, is key.

This means domination/conquest victories typically get the best scores, since they can be finished properly.

-However, in order for the "multiplier/factor/exponent/etc" to have the biggest effect you need the highest "in game" score as possible. Thats the score you see on the right hand side during the game.

To get the highest in game score you need.

1. Lots of tech
2. Lots of land
3. High pop
4. Wonders

However, without during all the precise math my advice would be get as far ahead in tech as you can, gain as many wonders as you can, get as much land as you can with the highest population wth the earliest victory. But the key is early victory.

Thanks for your reply. I've definitely achieved the four points you listed -- tech, land, pop, & wonders, but I don't get a variation when I win. I'm still towards the bottom. So far the only victory I've had is the time victory, but I would still think a solid time victory with high pop, land, culture, etc would rank higher than the lower rungs of a long list of rankings. Any further thoughts or suggestions?

Start going for domination victories. You'll get better and better with it and begin winning earlier.

Anybody know what score is associated with each name ? I got a few Dan Quayles when I was new to the game, now I always get Augustus although some of my scores are four times others: it seems to me that the steps between rankings are too small.
