English Galleys attacking land units

I'm playing the Mayans on a huge world at the Monarch level. My closest neighbor, the English, declared war and attacked a couple of my cities with Galleys. Is this something new, I don't remember ships being able to directly attack land units before? So far all the attacks have failed and England has lost the ships, once when they lost to a Javelin Thrower I got a slave worker out of the battle. England is seafaring so I don't know if this is a trait of seafaring or not.

Did you have ships in those cities? Ships can now attack cities that have ships, I believe.

i dont think ships can attack cities with ships in them. unless its bombarding. if a ship bombards it will hit another ship. same with an bomber

The galleys shouldn't be attacking at all. They're flagged as a naval transport, not a naval power.

In all the cities that were attacked there was just a single land defender. When I finish the present session I will check to see if any save shows anything, now that I think about it one of the ships may have stopped when it got down to 1 hit point.

yeah, but only for the vikings, it isn't modded in any way is it?, even if it doesn't have to do with ships?

Right, but until they get frigate, the AI uses curraghs, galleys, and Caravels as naval power (as they have no other units).

I've never seen the AI use those ships in an offensive matter. They never attack my ships. One time I had scouting curraghs returning home for upgrades. In order to do so, they had to pass through Hittite waters, whom I was at war with. (Idiots kept dropping archers off on my island. Archipelago.). The Hittite waters were swarming with galleys, and none attacked my curraghs, even when my curraghs weren't fortified.

Has anyone ever seen the AI attack with these units? I've played 1.29f since June or July (whenever I registered here), PTW/Conquests since November -- and I've never noticed this.

yes the AI often attacks my curraghs and galleys with there galleys. They won't attack your ships if there ships are carrying units at the time. If you see a stack of AI galleys moving together that means that some are carrying units and others are acting as escorts so they won't attack you.

but if you only see a lone AI ship not exploring and moving around aimlessly with no aparent destination then that ship will most likely attack one of your ships as long as it has a reasonable chance of wining the battle.

Ya the same happened to me.

I posted this in the bug report forum a while back.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72441

Chieftess was able to reproduce it so it is in fact a confirmed bug. Lets hope it gets addressed soon.

If this has happened to anyone else, additional savegames would probably be helpful in someone eventually fixing it.

It happened to me once, as well.

This certainly is a bug and has been reported several times. One of the prepositions for it to happen seems to be the harbor being only defended by one unit. At least, that was the case for me.
Btw, afaik, there have been no reports about such an attack having been successful, yet. So, if it happens, it just weakens the AI further.
