English UHV?

I'm having some difficulty with the colonization goal for the English UHV on the latest patch. I've got a save at 1724, and I have 3 cities in North/South America, Africa, Australia, and I have 4 in India and Great Britain proper. All of them were founded by settlers, with the exception of my second city in India, which I took from Arabia. I'll play until 1733, and the "not yet" switches to a "NO". What could the problem be?

I get the feeling it has to do with the conquered Indian city. I remember on older versions you could conquer the first two cities on each continent as long as you founded the third one, but maybe that's changed. Either way, I founded 3 cities in India to capture more resources and to make sure, but it's still telling me it's a no go.

My other question: which techs usher in the industrial and modern ages? I can't find it listed on the wiki or anywhere else (I usually just stumble into new ages while researching, but I've actually got to beat France to the punch in this game assuming I can get the UHV working).

As for your last question, it should be stated in the tech's descriptions in the Civilopedia. I prefer Physics/Radio as the fastest way for England.

To your other question, Radio and Refrigeration are the most usual ones. I always go with Radio.

You must found 3 cities in North America and 3 cities in South America/Caribean. Those are seperate continents.
I think the Falkland island is also part of SA, which is green in English stability map.

Oh, I did. In North America I've got Boston, Fort Albany, and some other Canadian city, and in South America I've got the Falkland Islands and two in Honduras.

My civlopedia doesn't say for any of them that it advances an age... France just researched physics a few turns ago, however. I went for Democracy cause I didn't know any better, so I guess I'll go for a space win.

Honduras isn't South America.

Seconded, Honduras and Belize is North America. All of Meso-America is North-America, until Panama.

You should colonize Guyana/Venezuela instead.

I'm not sure about wether Jamaica or the Virgin Islands (Road Town) are North or South America, but they are also good spots. (Kingston gives sugar from 1600AD).

My civlopedia doesn't say for any of them that it advances an age...
Checked it again, mine doesn't either. Don't know where I got that idea.

When you go over it in the Tech Adviser, doesn't it say "Advances you to Modern Age" or something like that? Look at Theology, that advances you to the Medieval Age.

Wow I really suck at South America's geography. Looking at a map my cities would probably be in Guyana and Venezuela. I'm going to try and see if I can do anything differently, and if not I'll just fire up world builder and give myself two great people to start a golden age.
