The UU of Sumeria, the Enkidu Warrior, is by far my favorite new UU of C3C.

They are essentially spearmen at half the cost. Ten shields, and you can build them right off the bat. So why does this make me love them? Well, if you are someone who likes to send his/her settlers out with spearmen as opposed to the weak and rather risky warriors, the Enkidu is an invaluable unit. If your city has a normal or above average growth rate, you can kick out a settling squad at a considerably lower amount of shields than you would need to settle with spearmen. That equates to a lot of saved turns in the crucial, early settling stage of the game.

As you can see in my post here, the Enkidu allows for a nice jump start in the beginning which I find crucial for later success in Civ III.

Edit: Upon reflection, perhaps it isn't the greatest unit ever...I still love it, though, and find it very useful for my playing style.

I must admit the Enkidu Warrior is very nice it won me the Mesopotamia Conquest, and I loved it the hole way:)

It comes too early in the game and I don't like getting a golden age that early.

Yep. Anyone can set off your GA now by attacking you with a warrior.

Some people get on with Ancient UU's with very early GA's, but unless your UU is offensive (like the Jag or the Iro Mounted) I can't see how to capitalise on it...

Enkidu Warrior:

I hope you did not take offense; I was unaware with had anyone with that nick on the Forum.

The reason I dislike it is, of course, that it is so screamingly ahistorical - Enkidu was one warrior, and a mythological one at that. It's like having Rambo as the American UU. Questionable as some other UUs are, they do have some sort of historical basis.

Now that I would like to see! Better than the lame F-15...

A great multiplayer tactic! Attack the sumerians after a couple of turns to ruin their golden age! :)

The retaliation for this awful tactic would be all-out Golden Age-catalysed Enkidu swamping. You don't want a strong early-game civ with a cheap and powerful early-game UU and a grudge to end all grudges against you.

I only tried Mesopotamia, The Enkidu worrior really rocks.
It leads a fast conquering Persians and Babylons and builds good foudation in early stage of the game in my tactic.

I don't like it because the graphic art is messed up, and he fights with a stick.

Does enkidu warrior upgrade to swordsman?

No, Enkidu follows pike upgrade chain.
Swords must be built from scratch.

I'd rather pick Sumeria for being agricultural.:)

ohh well thats a plus, I was thinking it upgraded into sword.
