i normally dont buy game after game get tired of them in a week and buy another game. i'm picky and choosy about what i buy and play and aside from CIV II, III and PTW i bought another game, Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom.

this is similar to sim city in that you build one from the ground up except i think its much more than a sim city type game.

first off the game is set in china and covers about 3 thousand years of chinese culture so it isnt a modern times kind of game.

the graphics and animations are very nice and the people in the city have names and personalities. they also talk which is unique and interesting, their is text to read also and like in civ they each have a specific job/function such as if you have a well up to four people can "work" a well and bring water to it, thats their only job.

there are MANY different kinds of buildings, common housing, elite housing, government buildings, mints (for making money), tax houses, inspector buildings (to make sure all buildings are up to code and falling apart, they also put out fires when a building catches on fire) and a bunch of agricultural and industrial type buildings/farms, sheds, smelters. you also have religious buildings to make to make your people (and gods) happy. there are even buildings for entertainers to train in so you can celebrate new years, liven up the market places (both common and grand) and generally make the city more appealing so you can get more immigrants. there are shops you can put in the market place, hemp shops, food shops, shops for silk, laquerware, ceramics, bronzeware, etc. you also have warehouses, trading stations and mills (they process the food for the food shops). then you have the miltary where you build fortifications for your city such as walls gates, towers, places to train soldiers, etc. the game is based on a square grid like in civ III and thats ok, ive gotten use to this kind of format and i kinda like it.

you can also add things to beautify your city such as gardens elaborate walkways, pavillions, ponds, sculptures, monuments, etc. all this makes the city more desirable and more aesthecially peasing which draws more people to your city.

now aside from building all these things you also have other cities (either in single player which are AI controlled or MP online) that you can ally with and trade with.

i just got the game yesterday and its really interesting. so far its fun and not too hard to learn, there is just so much to learn that you cant learn it all in one game, which is good, its something you learn as you play more and more rather than learn it once, beat it and get bored with it.

in some ways its better than civ III or PTW but in others its not as good (i mean come on! you only get one city! i guess civ ruined me for other sim city type games) but those comparisons are not fair to either game and i shouldnt be making them but ive played civ III for so long i cant help but compare other games to it. all in all i think the game is good and worth checking out. there doesnt seem to be much tech support for it (such as patches for bugs) but i havent had any problems with it other than i had to put the CD in the CD writer drive rather than the regular DVD rom that i play the civ disks in. i thought that was weird.

the game is 40 bucks and for all that you get with the game (MP player capability, etc) its worth more like 30 bucks, but thats because i like for EVERYTHING to be cheaper than it it actually is, it has nothing to do with the game itself. its worth checking out, DL the demo first before you decide to buy it(thats why i like it, they let you try it out to let youmake a more informed decision).

I've seen games like that before and if it's ANYTHING like the Conquest of the New World series then...no.

Did you enjoy it? :)
It's still on my hard drive but i'm starting to get bored with those kind of games. Maybe Sim city 4 would renew my addiction to micro management games... THe graphics of ROTMK is fine, granted, but that doesn't necessarily make an excellent game. It still remain a good and addictive game for a newbie :)
