Error: Catastrophic Failure

Last night when I tried to install Civ IV, I got a disturbing error message. After inserting disk 2 when asked to do so, a pop up error message read:

feature: Default Feature
Component:
File:
Error: Catastrophic Failure

At this point, the installation stops, quits and all traces of the installation is cleared off my computer.

I looked through the information supplied with the game as well as on the support site and have found nothing. Perhaps someone can help?

Any information is better than the 'no information' I have right now. I appreciate your help.

You are not the only one. Unfortunately, no one seems to know why this error occurs. It might be faulty disc manufacture.

I have the same error. I'm still looking for answers.

I took my game back and exchanged it. Everything is great now. This game is fun.

It is unfortunate that bad discs are put out there, but exchange is no hassle if you want to play this game.

I've been getting this same error as well. Is the only solution to exchange the game??

Well, barring any official solution you might want to exchange the discs/game yes, manufacturing processes still produce flaws occasionally.

It cannot hurt can it?

No it cant hurt, just double checking since I had to drive to 3 different Best Buy's to find the game since most were sold out. Just being lazy since I now have to drive 45 minutes each way to exchange it!

Ok, so I exchanged my copy at Best Buy and sure enough I was able to successfully install the game! Of course now I get the "Black Map" issue but I'm updating my graphics drivers as we speak.
