Error following patch download?!?

Just a quick question/problem...
Bought Civ4 (Game of year ed.) a couple days ago and had been playing it with no problems. Last night, I decided to try to run the "check for updates/patches" app. from the main menu of the game. I downloaded the 1.7(?) patch and then my game would not open. So I tried to uninstall the program, but everytime I try to de-install, I get this error:

Go to Start>Computer>[YOUR HARD DRIVE]>Program Files>Firaxis Games. Then highlight Civ 4 and delete it. Then delete it from my documents as well.

You've just manually deleted the game. Now reinstall it.

Also, I got a simillar problem. I got the new patch, because I wanted to play online, and it said (when I tried to open it afterwards) that the file, "D3DX9_32.DLL" was missing and it couldn't open.

Firaxis just keeps getting more and more gay.........

actually this error is caused by the fact that the new patch requires a newer DirectX 9c release than the one installed on your computer, download the newest one from here and you are good

Would it be hidden somewhere in a temp directory? I've searched my whole hard drive for a Firaxis folder and no matches turn up. I can't re-download the 1.74 patch either b/c I trashed some of the subfolders in mydocuments folder. Help!

You could search for "Sid Meier's Civilization 4" and check, "Look in hidden and system folders" and it may find it.

Also, there's a chance that most of it is deleted and it just finding this one file thinking that it's already installed when you pop in the disk (assuming you have already tried that) ... . But, in this case, right click on the disk in the My Computer folder and go to explore. Then you can open the setup manually.
