Espionage

Wow, I never had any of these issues with Espionage in BtS. I made fairly extensive use of it, & so did the AI in my games. Being able to steal technologies wasn't a good mission to include IMO-instead I think they should have had some kind of "Industrial Espionage" mission that allowed you to "steal" beakers towards a tech you were already studying-or "Industrial Sabotage", that allowed you to "destroy" beakers towards a civs current research project.
Aside from that, though, I loved the ability to spread propaganda, try & force a socio-political realignment etc etc. Some games I couldn't be stuffed using spies, but the passive system alone made a modest investment in EP worthwhile.
That's not to say it couldn't be improved, like what I mentioned above, & perhaps that socio-political realignments should only be allowed in the Capital. Also remember that, with the removal of Commerce, if EP's make a return, then they will be generated directly from your buildings, your citizen specializations & from tiles (& possibly trade routes)-so you'd no longer have to sacrifice science or culture in order to pursue an espionage strategy!

Aussie.

For all of you who said Espionage should be introduced in an expansion I'm with you.

In the same way that Warlords was a great enhancement for Civ 4, espionage would be great for this new version of Civ.

There has to be something ... I love pushing my little diplomats around the map, poking my nose in to other nation's affairs. :)

You spoke mi mind almost completely here! Espionage introduced a layer of depth to the gameplay never before achieved by any civ game or expansion. Please, by no means I try to sound demeaning here, but I can easily understand it being annoying and tedious for many gamers, needing to adapt theirs already concieved playing styles; having another choice within the slider, more worries and new foreign espionage to cope with, etc etc..
It´s just great, and prone to improvement of course! Which I was hoping to find in this sequel.. mmnmnmnmnmnmn...
