My King requested I declare war on the Netherlands which I did, I like the extra troops. Is there a penalty if I sign a peace treaty? In a previous game the King declared a peace treaty and the war was over. This one has gone on for 30 turns or longer and its hindering my economic focus and growth.

It's better to wait till your king calls it off. You'll get a famous nobleman and statesman with it, and I think also better relationship with your king.

BTW, wars are opportunity, not hindrance. Best you can do it to face the initial attack in your own territory, then take action to the enemy, capture some colonies to get loot and huge population boost. You should also get some pirate ships and go expand your fleet-during war, pirate ships have a chance of capturing the enemy ships, including that Man-o-War your opponent got.

Good point. My war is far my colony, I sent troops to the opponent and captured some of his cities and civilians. I just haven't secured a port city yet. His ships won't come out and fight though?? Freaking Netherland pussy's lol.

The war with the Swedes that the Stadtholder asked me to join has been going on 26 years. I was not happy about starting that because, of my 4 European opponents, the Swedes are the furthest away, and the Portuguese and the Spanish, both of whom I'd much rather have fought, especially the Portuguese immediately to the south of me. I have waited and waited for the Stadtholder to end that war. All that is left to the Swedes is Fort Christina. Now, before I can make the final push to capture the capitol of the the Swedish Colonies, the Stadtholder comes and wants me to make war on the Portuguese! Of course I agreed, and what is really sweet is that I got 2 more Hessians, the Royal Artillery, and the ship! Wondering if the Stadtholder will ever make peace with Sweden....
