I run around the internet and see some gossips about the next expansion is something like "Friend and Foe"... Here are my thoughts if the next expansion is coming, may be in like 2 years from now:

- Things which are already in civ games:

+ The comeback of World Congress (UN) - Diplomatic Victory
+ Vassal state (colony system) inspired by Civ 4, considering the loyalty the mechanic they add in R&F. This will come with the idea of Revolution, Liberation, etc.
+ Corporation, again inspired by Civ 4.
+ More wonders, more civs, especially more units to fill in the gap in the game right now.
+ AI IMPROVEMENT!!! STOP SPAMMING DECLARATION OF FRIENDSHIP xD
+ Enhanced diplomacy system.
+ Renewable energy, inspired by civ 5 (Solar plant,...)

- Things which are mod in previous civs:

+ Random events, inspired by EU IV (such as global warming, natural disaster...) and fit with the Emergency system in-game.
+ Civ name by policies: a mod in civ 5 which alter the name of the nation base on your policies choices. This make the choices you make for your empire become more impactful
+ Removable district, wonder.
+ GOLD, why isn't this resource in the game already???

Technically Civ 4 had random events and Civ 2 changed your civ's name based on its current government -- but I'd love to see both those features make a comeback.

In my opinion the continent system, the loyalty system and the major recent nerfs to England all point in the same direction: there's a colony-themed expansion somewhere on the horizon, and we can expect:
  • England in particular will get a major buff to the new colony mechanics (whatever they may be), to compensate for how much worse it's gotten since Vanilla Civ6.
  • Colonies might start out as something "less" than a city, perhaps claiming just one or two tiles and granting you access to a local luxury or strategic resource, before growing into true cities.
  • Colonies won't be affected by loyalty until they grow into true cities -- and then you'll have to worry about their desire for independence, and potentially anti-colonial wars which bring new post-colonial civs into the mid- and late-game.
  • You might even be able to colonise weaker civs who are behind in technology -- or, if someone more advanced tries to colonise your continent, you might get some kind of Native Resistance CB against them.
  • The World Congress / United Nations will play a major role in de-colonisation in the late game, potentially through the implementation of new emergencies. If a major empire in the Atomic Era wants to hold onto its colonies, the UN might declare a liberation emergency against them. This would be in line with the originally-intended purpose of emergencies: giving weaker civs a chance to team up against civs which are approaching victory.
  • There will be a new scenario (probably Conquest of the New World, possibly Scramble for Africa) which relies heavily on the colonial mechanics.
  • We'll get some new colonial-themed civs: Portugal, at least one or two African and Native American nations, maybe an alternate leader for France (Napoleon III?).
The whole expansion won't be pure colonialism, though. We'll also get some assorted civs and leaders from other regions and eras, and probably one or two additional mechanics not related to colonialism. If I had to guess, the World Congress will be more complex in Civ 6, and a lot of it will hinge around that.

Also, more Muslims. By my count Saladin is still the only Muslim leader in the game.

@humble serf Yes, I've had similar thoughts. A lot of the mechanics introduced seem to point in that direction, particularly loyalty, governors and emergencies.

I think we may also get something more around "regional" alliances and ideologies, which will likely tie into some world congress and or impact on loyalty (the introduction of the ideological casus belli suggests to me Firaxis are thinking more about ideologies). I'm almost convinced will get vassal or puppets - I can't believe the current way Free Cities work is anything other than a placeholder.

I'd love to see Civ 4's Vassalage system again. That added an unexpected amount of depth to a lot of my games, and made working with the AI more interesting.

Even more than that awesome feature, I would like to see an upgrade to Barbarians, which I have discussed in other threads.

Still crossing my fingers for Mansa Musa

Way back when people were speculating the first expansion, I noted there were 3 districts that didn't have uniques-
Campus
Encampment
Commercial Hub

I guessed Korea for campus, zulu for encampment, and Mansa musa for CH. 2/2 so far! And we learned they were totally fine with making Korea unconscionably OP, so the path is clear to attach the Mansa Musa Caboosa to the Infinite Gold Train...

There are two takes on a CH- a trade based side and the gold generating side. We have all kinds of powerhouse trade civs in the game, and none of them got it. If only there were some historical figure leading a civ in a poorly represented region who was known for having absurd amounts of gold... I feel optimistic :gold:

What about the new Government district? And the Water Park?
Well, these did just come with R&F, so it remains to be seen how they leverage them...
The Water Park is simply the Aquatic version of the Entertainment Complex. Brazil's Street Carnival district was given a water park variant, the Copacabana, so that they weren't getting short-changed by the addition. So I doubt anyone new will get a unique water park since Brazil has it.

The Government Plaza is an interesting case- some have suggested that a leader noted for particularly good governance or different approach to administration could lead a civ with a unique Gov't Plaza; I think one of the Byzantines was floated for that. There is only one of them in your empire, though - it would be a little tricky to grant a UD effect that wouldn't be better served as a Civ or leader ability, while keeping their infrastructure slot open for something else.

We also have no unique aerodrome or spaceport, but for obvious reasons they don't seem ripe for them- Aerodromes come very late and Spaceports are victory districts that come even later.

I mean we can have a unique spaceport district for Space Race themed Civs and Aerodrome for Air domination themed Civs. But is may just be a little bit too specific for a Civ game.

My guess would be that the Ottomans would get the Bazaar (or the name Carsi to make it Turkish) for a unique CH.
Mali could easily go with a Bank replacement or something else like a mud mosque for faith and science since gold could go with other abilities.
I said something about a unique Govt. Plaza would go well with the Byzantines.
The Aerodrome and the Spaceport come to late to be any useful and we probably would have already got one if that were the case with a Vanilla Civ aka America, Russia and Germany only come to my mind.

I figure multi-leader Renaissance Italy will get a Piazza to replace the CH, offering either bonus GP points or extra Great Work slots. Either that or the Berbers/Moroccans will get a Medina Quarter (perhaps the best example of a real-world unique district) CH which can defend itself like an Encampment. Having said that, I'd much rather Mali gets a unique Commercial Hub than a gold-themed builder improvement -- Nubia's CUA already gives them more profitable mines, and I don't want every sub-Saharan civ to blend into one huge indistinguishable gold mine.

I don't particularly want to see any more unique shrines or temples (eg. Mud Mosque) either -- the Stave Church and the Prasat are such weird UI's when you consider other culturally-specific places of worship like the Dar-e-Mehr, the Gurdwara and the Meeting House are available to all civs via worship beliefs.

Machu Picchu as the unique Inca Government Plaza would be a beautiful thing to behold. Terrace farms can be relegated to the CUA, letting the Inca farm hills without researching Civil Engineering.

As for the Ottomans... I don't know exactly what I'd give them as a UI, but it wouldn't be a Commercial Hub. That's far better suited to the Italians, Malians or Berbers (although I'd accept an Ottoman Medina Quarter if the Civ was designed to include Algiers, Tunis and Tripoli, perhaps via a Barbary Pirate CUA or UU). The Romans already took Bathhouses, and Cyrus's Pairidaeza already fills the role that an Ottoman Palace Garden improvement might otherwise occupy. A Kervansaray, perhaps? Either a Market/Bank replacement or a tile improvement to buff Turkish traders?

A new unique Commercial Hub would be cool, but this post is my favorite simply for the phrase "attach the Mansa Musa Caboosa to the Infinite Gold Train".
