As Rise and Fall has been released, I think it's time to brainstorm things for another expansion. I believe an avenue for this is with the already familiar and the brand new. I think that some of the most important technologies in history within the last couple hundred years are electricity and the railroad. Both which are not really represented other than with technologies. I'm proposing a new system that revolves around electricity and how its generated and how it affects the nations around you as well as yourself. This tied in with new sorts of geographical features such as large rivers, new terrain types, new features, and new natural wonders could make a more real world for our civ games. Infrastructure such as a power generating district that could fit different types of buildings based on adjacency, hydroelectric dams on "large rivers", and bridges that span "large rivers" would be added. The basic premise is that the electricity strategic resource is needed to power modern buildings and wonders. Civs without it get cant build things like a stadium or a research lab. Or wonders like Broadway and the stadium one. It is also used to power up older buildings like the workshop, university, and factory. Eventually as the world enters the modern eras, civs without power access produce negative amenities. Railroads also need to come back as well as futuristic upgrades for late game like maglev.

Power generation could come in various forms, all require techs and resources/or terrain types, as well as districts. As of now I could think of oil power plants, coal power plants, nuclear power plants using those resources already familiar. New resources like geothermal and natural gas could provide plants based on resources. Terrain types like desert or new semi-desert could hold solar plants and different featureless tiles like coast or hills/flat areas for wind power. The culmination of generation of power and techs could be the fusion power plant that provides power for all cities. Hydro dams could be districts themselves providing power, placed on new large rivers that need bridges or the dams themselves to cross. I also believe there can be hydro dam wonders like hoover or the three gorges dams that provide bonuses. New Natural wonders like the geothermal fields in Iceland or Yellowstone could create rich power sources or natural parks depending on how much you wish to exploit the natural resource.

Other infrastructure such as bridges and an upgrade system for the aqueduct district are needed as well as wonders for each. Bridge wonders that provide bonuses like the Golden Gate or from the past like the Charles Bridge in Prague or Pont Neuf. Aqueduct wonders like Pont du Gard or even long shot wonders like Chapultepec Aqueduct. Aqueduct districts could get buildings like baths, hospitals, or water treatment plants. Road/ Railway wonders such as The Appian Way, The Silk Road, or the Golden Spike could create city connections with all current cities that you own or on the continent.

Anyways I hope you found this enjoyable, Im sure that stuff like this has already been posted. These are just my ideas. Please expand and comment!

Union-Pacific Railroad Wonder! Direct connection between cities on opposite coasts of the same continent.

Hoover Damn. +3 Production in any city within 12 tiles.

Western Union. +1 science, +1 culture to all cities in the civilization.

For sure! I think there are lots of wonders that could provide interesting gameplay with the features Ive suggested.

What about having a system of dynamic development?

For example, introduce 2 key moments in civ history: 1) the agricultural revolution; and 2) the industrial revolution. At the moment it’s just click and research in order to progress.

In order for the player to progress along the tech tree they have to pass these moments by meeting certain conditions. In the case of 1) players have exploit certain resources, research certain technologies, and conquer a couple of city states. The same with 2), in order to industrialise you have coal, a certain number of cities and population, etc.

What this would result in is an uneven development in Civs throughout the game. One civ might be stuck in the ancient era whilst the other is in the industrial era, which would reflect the differences in societal development.

You could have a system whereby an industrialised civ can spread itself to a neighbour, much like institutions in EUIV.
