Fall of a civilization

I think this wouldn't work a smentioned earlier your capital would be obliterated, your other cities ignored. I like the idea of a nation splitting, maybe in differnt circumstances.

No. The point is to have a lot of city, not to erase the other civs in a first place. You may want to take less defended cities first, and close to your capital. And even if the other cities are ignored, it would be a good change in Civ, more simple, less boring. Quite à conquérir toute la planète, autant le faire simplement (à défaut de vite).

Well it could be designed so that
1. Capitals are not spontaneously moved, they must be rebuilt

2. The lack of a Capital or Forbidden Palace means that no Distance maintenance is charged, BUT all Other expenses are doubled

OR... Relocating your Capital could mean all [or some number] of your Civics spontaneously revert to the lowest levels (So it doesn't matter early on, but later it matters more)..perhaps the Government one only. (so instant War Weariness in a Police State, Production Drop in a US, Research drop in a Republic, and unhappiness in a Monarchy)

I would vote for some consequence, but not a huge one. Perhaps a few turns of anarchy depending on the size of the capital, or based on how far the capital has to be moved to get to the next largest city.

For any players of MoO2 there was the concept that the damage caused by the loss of your capitol was based on your form of government.

A civ example would be that some central-planning/federalist/tightly controlled governments would be hurt more by losing the capitol than more independent/confederation types would. You could then look at your enemies government form and decide how much effort to put into a strict capitol push vs. a more traditional territory-based attack.

The consequences should depend on the stage of the game you are at, and your government type. For example, in a modern era, technological advances allow governments to continue regardless of physical location, in earlier times this is not the case. The business of government required everything to be physically in the one location.

Perhaps some sort of government unit would be spawned when a capital is taken, that could settle in a new city and create a new capital.

Something to adress the 'nation' issue should also be done. The game seems based on the idea that nations have a common sense of identity and allegiance from the earliest days. This is not the case in the real world, and an element of this could be worked into the game. A more city state type development in early stages, empires that rise and fall.

These are only possibilities. Feedbackk welcome.
