famous words

"The interior of the Soviet Union is rotten. All I have to do is kick in the door and it will collapse."
- Adolf Hitler

"There are few, I believe, in this enlightened age, who will not acknowledge that slavery as an institution is a moral and political evil."

Some more literary ones:

"Cogito ergo sum" (i think therefore i am) Descartes

"Ουκ αν λάβεις παρά του μη έχοντος" (you cannot recieve from one who has not to give) Menippos the cynic, in a hilarious short story by Lucian, adressing Charon who, enraged, asked him once again to pay him for the boat-ride to the underworld :)

"No one had ever made Charon smile before, no one before had ever made him weep" Lord Dunsany, in a little gem of a story, titled Charon (there are many etexts of it online)

another one I always liked, since you bring up the ancients...

"Ceterum censeo Carthaginem esse delendam". Cato

roughly translates into (my latin is sketchy at best) furthermore I am of the opinion that Carthage is to be destroyed.

also "et tu Brute", although this one actually stems from the quill of the bard rather than Caesar himself.
