Hello World!!!
My first post and my first Civ3 mod! My first game mod in general!
Its a fantasy mod containing five different races to play:
Humans,Elves,Dwarves,Orks,Goblins
each race has three Civs (xcept Humans that have four) and distinct units. there is much more to it but its all in the readme file
anyway.
Go download it! Play it! Test it! Playtest it!
And post you oppinions!

Personally I have played it for while and encountered no bugs.
if you are not that lucky please report them. You will probably need to rename the bic file to civ3mod.bic to avoid the nasty techtree insect.

This is, as allways, not the final version. To better it I implore you to help:

First thing I wish to improve is civilization's, leader's and city names
Truth is, I'm not that well aquainted with fantasy to make up appropriate names. I have thougth of naming one elvish civ as Noldors, but as I couldn't remember any other names from Silmarilion I gave up. If you have better memory (or a copy of that book) (or some other ideas) please post them!
NOTE: The names are IN now.
There is no civilopaedia for this mod xcept the readme file. Reasons are many. I had no time, no will and have moral issues about overwriting otherpeople's civilopaedia files. If you know a solution to above problems, do post it!

There is no graphics in this mod and I am definitly not going to be making any. So reason why wolves look like elephants is becouse they are overfed. Radar artillery is called dragon becouse it IS one. reason why dragons don't fly is cause I find sight of a flying radar artillery rather disturbing. BUT if somebody IS willing to do graphics for this mod I would be very gratefull. You'll be doing world a great favour and go to Heaven.

P.S. : I added newest version to this post
This version contains (more) proper names.

Awesome scenario, but I just have some advice:

1.)Give the civilizations clan names instead of Elves 1, Goblins 2.
(Like Night-Clan Elves or Blood-Clan Goblins0

2.)Try to rename the cities, if you have time, to names that fit (ex: Rivendell for Elves and Aerosoth for humans).

3.)Make use of the space ship parts and rename them to make them other wonders or improvements.

But so far, so good!

Ugh!
I just found a blunder...
Settlers couldn't load on Galley coz they weren't 'foot soldiers' and galley can only transport those...
So here is corrected zip. It should work with old saves (if you had any). I only put foot soldier marker to settlers, workers and explorers. I also added Golden age unit info in readme file.

OK. Now to reply...
Rivendell! Now there's an elvish city name! I would have never recalled it. So please post as much Tolkien names as possible (add a context to it, like what race, kingdom and stuff).
Noldor names, Moriquendi, not quendi, and others... do post them!

I tried playing your mod and it crashed by the second turn. I checked the .bic file in the editor and I noticed that you changed the names to a lot of the units. If you do this, the names of the unit folders and .ini files inside the folders need to be changed to the exact same name as well. There's an easy way to do this without copying all the .flc and .wav files into each folder.

Open the .ini file and type in the source folder for teach unit. For example, for the Grunt, it should look like:

ATTACK1=..\Samurai\SamuraiAttackA.flc

Repeat this for each .flc and sound file.

As you said you didn't have any crashes when you tested it, I assume you have already done something like this on your computer. But we won't be able to use it without the corrected unit folder names. You should probably post the unit folders with correct .ini files for people to download in order to use your mod.

Other than that, I think it's a great idea. I look forward to giving it another try.

:king:

I just read the Lord of the Rings series, so the names of cities/regions are pretty fresh in my mind.

Elves: Rivendell, LothLorien, Mirkwood (tribe), Druadan, Eilenach, SilverLode, Thranduil,

Humans: Esgaroth (aka the Long Lake), Numenor, Annuminas, Osgiliath, Minas Tirith, Denethor, Bree, Rohan,

Orks: Gondor, Mordor, Angmar, Harondor, Ered Lithui, Orthanc,

Dwarves: Moria, Dale,

There are also plenty of heroes that could be used as Leaders. Beasts could also be renamed (although that would take a hell of a while).

to Ed o'War:

I'm confused. Zip file already contains ini files properly put in Arts\units subdirectory. maybe you didn't unzip them with full path? If it brakes on second turn the cause is goblin javeliner. Check if you have 'javeliner' subdirectory.

Okay, I found the unit folders. I thought it was just a .bic file, so I unzipped everything to the Scenario folder. Sorry about that. I look forward to giving your mod a try tonight.

new day, new bug...
Don't you just love them? I do not.
If you play long enough the game will crash. Cause is, this time, in leader and army units and renamed ages.
I squished the bug and added a new download to first post. In future I will add new versions to first post. This version should also work with older saves, if you had any.

DAmn it i just played one turn and it bugged!!!! maybe it isn't your fault cause i don't have a regular version ( in france the game is not already out ).
I got some name for you (specially for the dwarf race) from ADD :
Notice that i'm french so maybe i'm making bad traduction
You can put three race : Mountain dwarf (the stronger and taller)
Hill dwarf ( normal dwarf)
Duergars ( evil dwarf)
Damn i can't find my warhammer codex for name of hero , town or unit, i'll post it tomorow.

I added another version with few little repairs...
I will soon find time to change the names too.

you can use my lotr/fantasy mod for anything you need.

this looks cool and i'll probably play it for the next game i play .:goodjob:

:yeah:
I've managed to get a copy o Silmarillion and compile some names. Most of them come straight from that book's appendix , although not all belong to their proper owner. Some have been modified and some made up (still in the spirit of Tolkien).
This version also has some minor fixes and changes. Major one is that I had to add, aptly named, dud techs to fourth age to prevent the game from crashing. For what it might matter, new version was done in newest (1.21) version of civedit. I also added credits in the readme file. YOU might be in there, so go check it! Download is attached to the first post.
