Fantasy Unit Requests

I laughed my Ass off Aaglo... Until I cried that is... He should be breathing fire in that picture.

I love the shell, similar to what I was thinking so I'll have to come up with a different type (maybe if you make the ocean one I'll make a land one)

I could use some angel units ;) (and about 40 more, but...)

Angels would be awesome :) I'm slowly compiling a list of units I need for my backburner project (Working title: "Yes-yet-another-fantasy-mod" ) and that's one of the prominent ones. I'll post a real list of units I need both for my fantasy mod and for my current mod as soon as I finalize the list a little more. Still working on buildings on the fantasy mod atm.

That's a great idea.

A question to Drift:
Would you like the dragon turtle to have a head that looks like a turtle's head - or a similar to the helldrakes&dragons I've done recently? As you know, I already have the head of a "dragon" (right, ha-ha-ha! you call that a dragons head?!? I guess you do :p ), but I haven't yet started modelling the turtle head.

Did you see the question in that blabbering? That's okay.
What kind of head do you want for the dragon turtle (for the sea version)?

Maybe somekind of a hybrid between a dragon head and a turtle's head? You could use the dragon head as base and shorten the snout a bit and widen the head in general. I'm not sure what to do with the 'fin' on its head. Could it be duplicated and moved to it's cheeks? Or would it look stupid? :)

I really like the proportions on this pic of a Chinese dragon turtle. Maybe it could be used as a model for physical proportions? Looks are entirely up to you. Actually, it's all really up to you. This is just suggestions - you do the creating and I really trust your artistic vision.

Try using the head of a snapping turtle as a base for your embellishments. They're mean looking SOB's.

Aaglo, can you guesstimate when the turtle might be done? I'm itching to release a new patch for MoM and would like to know whether I should wait a bit so I could get the turtle in. (I already have the temporary ftp account from Thunderfall waiting). :)

I can't give an exact estimate (what a weird term that is...), but depending on how many difficulties I might have, I'd say that it should be finished in 3-4 days (but if I'm on a roll, then you could have it tomorrow evening).

Thanks. :) I've been getting quality feedback from the mod lately and as the current version available online is really dated, I feel like I should capitalize my momentum and get an up to date version online as soon as possible. I think I'll use a placeholder for this patch, so there's no rush. :)

One more question about the dragon turtle - should it have some sort of rider on it's back? (I think it was an independent unit in MoM, but I'm not sure).

No. My vision of the unit is that it's pretty damn big. A rider would take that away. :)

Unless of course that one civ coloured pixel is supposed to be the rider. ;)

I did a test drive on the turtle head. Okay, this is not very fierce looking head, but It's close to the real (what?!?) dragon turtle head (dragonturtle is a turtle which breathes fire - that's the only common thing between it and a dragon IMO).

So, ignore the head texture (it looks like wood), and also try to ignore the too-much-bulging eyes. the shape of the head is quite close to actual turtle, except the beak in the upper jaw in this is much smoother than in the real thing - I'd suppose the fire has done it's job there.

I think I could add those dragon "earlobes" ("finns") to this head to make it look more fantasy-like, but somehow I like this turtlehead (it reminds me of my tortoise  ).

cheers!

I don't think the fins would fit - it was a bad idea by me.

I like the head a lot, but could it look just a tad more fierce/fantasy? He has got those spikes on his shell already... ;) Maybe slightly more pointy snout and a horn?

For example, would this look entirely silly?

that's an extremely good idea, drift!
And, damn, that edit looks like it was already rendered that way! Yikes! (or did you just copy a spike from the shield, and paste it on the nose :p )

Also, should the colour of the horn (and the spikes) be BONE (is that a colour)? Bone-coloured? Colour-of-the-bone? Bone-pigment? ...oh crap... :crazyeye:

Glad to hear you like the idea. :) The spike is indeed from the shield but I made it more curvy. :crazyeye:

Hmmm. Will the turtle itself be brown? I don't know. The horn could be bone color, but I have imagined the shell spikes to be just extensions of the shell... Maybe you need to test it a bit. ;)
