OMFG, found a new favorite trio of Mycenaen->Greece->Byzantine! I bet Egypt is even better for this to give you the production boost for Greece CM.
Basically your goal is to get to Varangian Gurards ASAP which you can do far earlier than Halberdiers. Pumping out 43 CS, 2 star VGs on HK difficulty you'll one-shot xbows, pikemen with height advantage, mongol horde in the open, elephants, etc. It is so satisfying. Oh and no problem funding it via the Byzantine EQ. I hit VG at T102 but with a suboptimal start and only one city in CM mode during the Greek era because of all the fighting. The Mauryan fame leaders to the south just lost a bunch of territory but now are Edo so it will be much tougher once those samurai start appearing.
I want to try Egypt instead of Mycenaean next. I'm guessing a good start would allow you to CM your way to VGs at maybe T80 since all you need to research is Heavy Infantry. Getting the fame to go Byzantine at T80 might be a bit rough though, you'd have to get lucky and skip the fame farming.
