Favorite games (other than civ)

Age of empires and SMAC.

Of curiosity to anyone who has significant experience playing SMAC... how does the AI intelligence stack up to Civ II's? Is the AI as haphazard? Can the AI handle diplomacy any better?

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 1-4 plus 6
Balders Gate 1 and 2
IceWind Dale

No?

I never finised playing it either, I got to the point where you had to find a tree branch. It was suppose to be behind the tree in one of the villages, but I couldn't find it. I have played it up to this point 3 times and have gotten stuck there.

Definately the old AD&D games, Anyone know where I can get Champions of Krynn???
And Definately Diablo 2
Final Fantasy 7
Excelsior and at the top of my list as always is Civ2!!

3D Action: Has to be Unreal Tournament for the sheer wanton gratuitous violence and cheesy one-liners in it. I do have fond memories for the original game in that genre Wolfenstein 3D.

Strategy: The all new Cossacks from CDV is superb and trounces AoE by miles. A class act. Civ2 still remains the favourite though.

AI is much better in SMAC, I'm not sure what you mean by "haphazard" but it's consistent in that every faction has a distinct personality that it sticks to, Gaians get angry if you aren't eco-friendly, Morganites just want to trade and make money, the Hive commits atrocities against you...according to their "agenda." Diplomacy is more realistic in that if you are insanely more powerful than another faction and start destroying them, they'll beg mercy and really mean it...and then if you help them build back up, they'll be grateful and be loyal allies. If you betray a certain faction once but are more powerful, they'll try for peace, but after 2 times or so they'll never forgive you. So diplomacy is more realistic, and more flexible, too (you can trade different things for eachother, including cities.)

Perhaps this belongs in the SMAC forum?

Wow! It seems like RR_Aquilae and Dell19 are the only people who like sports games (and Dell19 likes racing games). Lots of people like Championship Manager though, but it's not really a sports game.
Best soccer game is ISS - it rules! It's so damn hard to score though. Which is what makes it better really: the games when you can work out one way to score and use it over and over again are just ridiculous.
I also like Tony Hawk - the second one's more of a computer game because you have to collect more and more things and go right out of the way to find them, but no. 1 is a proper sports game. So easy to learn and so addictive! Crappy pop-up adverts though.
I hate ice hockey and basketball games, though John Madden football's great when you play two players - both on the same side and realise that neither of you can defend for sh*t.

Golf games can be good to play, but really boring to watch someone else doing it, especially as they last so long.
Does anyone remember the old Track and Field athletics games? Spending ages bashing the fire button, or making circles with your joystick with very little reward. Horrible.

Computer Games:

Panzer General
Perfect General
Grandest Fleet
Empire Deluxe
Conquered Kingdoms

Board games:
Axis & Allies
Shogun

Damn, I've spent a lot of time playing these games.... <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0>

Edit: added another game. As I remember them I'll add them to the list.

Some of you might consider me as a mad, but my favourite games are
MOO-2 (1996) Screamer 2 (1994) and Wings (1996), but Wings is just a unknowed
finnish freeware game so I guess it
doesn't count. <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smileyshot2.gif" border=0>
[Edit: Now I've got NEW replacer to the Screamer2. Max Payne is the almost as good as Civ2!]

Other favs:

Operation Flashpoint has to be the best game I've seen in a long time despite all its flaws. I suppose Civ3 will claim the "Best new game of the year"-award when it's released but until then OFP remains on top of the list!

NHL 2001 - looking forward to the 2002 version though...

My favorite games (or series of game) are the Age of Empires series, and the Pharaoh etc. Series.

From Pc, other than Civs:

-Master of Orion I and II
-Master of Magic
-The Sims
-SMAC!
-recently I discovered King of Dragon Pass, based in the RuneQuest RPG, and is really good!(Although many others will not think the same)
-AOE and AOK, though are secondary.

I missed some for sure, but...
