I know it's totaly a matter of preference, but I have played everything but tiny, and I can't pick a favorite. They all seem so very different. Seems that on the larger maps military campaigns are alot more fun and varied, with so many more target to strike at, and the ability to have truly impressive armies.

However in the larger maps you get many cities that are rather useless, and managing them is a pain, and the AI have an equal amount of useless cities, and conquering all them after the ai has been "broken" is pure tedium. I guess it depends on my mood at the time, but I was wondering why you guys like certain sizes, or dislike them.

yea i also have a hard time deciding. i usually play small or standard because huge will start laggin on my computer and it would take too long to complete.

For just a regular game of Civ, I like standard. Especially on higher difficulties, there is still a lot to do and the games can last a long time! However, recently I've been having fun by playing my 362x326 world map (by el_mencey) game... :D

Tiny. I have a wife and 5 kids. I gave up trying to play standard and larger maps. I can play a tiny map to completion in several hours (as opposed to several hundred hours).

I find I can get away with a nice 206x 206. 60% wate.r mid- range mountains on a wet continent. (before it starts to slow between turns to much!)

I plug 19- 20 civs and give em 45- 50 tiles of sepration, just enough to let em get nice and fat, Works beatifully, really recemend it to anyone

For a quick game or a straightforward win, tiny. When I feel like a challenge and involving some time into something 'greater', huge. xOTM are generally standard, so that's a just middle for when I feel like just civving for the heck of it.

I've experimented with different sizes, and now I almost always play on standard maps with 8 civs. I dislike not being able to see all the civs at once on the diplo screen, so more than 8 is confusing for me. Smaller maps don't have as much variety of civs, though the games are a bit shorter and sometimes I wish I could play a game straight through in on sitting.

How big is that compared to the games "huge?"

Huge is 160x160. So it's a bit over twice the length and width of a huge map, so about 4 or 4.5 times the land area. But, especially since I'm playing an accurate world map, most of that is water and a good deal of islands...

Huge pangea maps used to be my favorite. Probably still are, I'm a builder at heart.

However, when I want a conquest win I'll use Tiny or Small.

Huge continents maps 100% of the time. Playing huge makes me really feel I like I can master whatever difficulty level to the fullest bc more civs makes the game harder for you since they trade more with each other than you. That said, when you beat a game on emperor on a huge map, its more difficult than demigod on a standard map.

My favorite map size would have to be HUGE because it has the most goods and goody huts so you can have a great advantage "if you know your stuff" over the AI

I like large. Plenty of AI to smack around, but not too large of a map.

Standard, if for no other reason than because that feels "right".
