Favorite map size?

Laugh if you wish, but I love tiny maps. :) And Archepelago 70 or 80% water!

I don't like long games.

And in C3C I play the Dutch which gives me a good seafaring setup.

Who else here loves tiny maps? Am I the only one? :coffee:

Tiny, but with 31 civs. That's a lot of fun.

I wonder if anyone here can help me out with this problem:

My favorite world is Huge, Archpelego, 80% water, warm, wet, 5 billion years, with all 16 civ opponents active, and raging barbarian hoards.

Now the downside is that by about 1500BC, it takes about 2 minutes between pressing my enter key, and my next turn starting as the AI runs through it's motions. By 1000BC, it takes 6 minitues, by 500BC, it takes 10, etc. (perhaps slightly exagerated, but not by much).

Is there anyway to speed up the AI or cut out the tracking of it, or something that will not keep me sitting at the terminal all day when all I need to do is press the enter key for 20 or so turns in a row? I find despite it being my favorite type of world, it's gotten monotonous to spend several hours during play, and not been able to get to 1AD, before I have to stop and get away from the screen for awhile cause of dizziness or eyes blurring.

Me to , and lovin it, say, Im using a 196x196, 18 Civs, 70% aqua, continent Map. Its Running fast, by that I mean less then a minute between turns in year 400ad . Im just curoius hows your map size/ performance working for you? Do you sqeeze all the Civs on the map? Wondering on this particular mod if thats a big slowdown more then map size is. Thanks for any feedback.

How do you get it to go fast like that? I'm at 500BC and it takes like 6 minutes or more between turns.

you have all the AI animations off, I assume? That won't help a lot, of course, because you don't know most the world.

I even have my own animations off. I switch them off in 1500BC when the problem really starts to be noticable, it speeds it back up a little, but still, by 500 BC, it takes minutes of anticipation to see wheter someone else has beaten me to the great library or not.

504 ram?

How about proc. speed? Seems odd that you would run into slowdown so early.

More on topic, I just recently started playing large random maps. And my current emp game is on a pangea. My first pangea ever! I must say pangea maps are alot of fun. It's so easy and fun to launch the world into a huge war! No one can hind behind the ocean everyone is at risk.
