I usually play with the maximum for the map size. I used to play mostly Huge maps, so 16, but in recent months mostly on Standard (to cut game times down), so 8. I feel it makes for about the right density of civs. But basically I feel many civs makes for a more interesting game, up to about 16, above which my computer gets too slow.

Voted 12-16.

I like to play on huge map with as many civs as possible. This makes the game more like the real world.

I like to mod the game so that you can play with more than the full amount of civs. More civs = More fun :D

I love playing on a huge map with the maximum ammount of civs but I've been playing on a large map with the max ammount of civs recently just because of the lag that you get on huge maps at the latter portions of the game.

I feel like I need to read a book between turns sometimes.

Yes, that late game lag can slow things down, but I get loads of other things done while waiting. You might say it helps tame the addiction.

I'm too impatient for the late rounds on huge maps, so I tend to play standard or small. I then edit them to allow 31 Civs (especially small Earth maps) for maximum in-your-face fun.

I personally don't like the low Civ's limit allowed for map sizes that are randomly generated...

I like to have 7-12 civs a game. Not too many, but still enough for a fun game. :D

Voted 7-12. I play on standard and small maps so this vote represents those maps with the maximum number of opponents selected.

Huge Map player - I need lots of Civs to populate the world. Makes also for more interesting trading and treaties. Comes at the cost of a cluttered diplomatic screen. :(

Huge map with max civs. If you're going to party, invite as many as possible!

Standard Max Civs, so 7 others.

Until sometime this week (mid-week most likely), 6 civs or less.

My new 3.20Ghz, 1 Gig RAM computer might change that though. I really want to try out 16+ civs, especially 31 civs on a 256x256 map. I might even try a 362x362 map.

1 meg of RAM?!? Are you mistaken? My new computer that I just got is a 2.16 Ghz and it has 512 MB of RAM... I would think that it would be more than 1 meg.

I meant gig. I'm used to referring to RAM in megs. :p

It all depends on the map size. If I want a fast game then I have a tiny or small map with 3 or 4 civs. If I want a long, drawn out game, then a huge map with 16 or more civs. I don't limit myself to one map size or number of civs.
