I know this has probably been posted countless of times before, but I couldn't find it on the first two pages and I figured you guys wouldn't mind raving about your favourite civs. :p So, which is/are your favourite civilization/s and why?

Hopefully this will motivate me to venture into the unknown and use unfamiliar civs. :)

(And btw is there a poll anywhere on favourite civilizations? I would like to see people's responses.)

I have no favourite civs anymore. I used to love Egypt when I was playing vanilla. For C3C I played the Byzantines and Greece a lot, but now I play every civ.

Well when I got C3C it was when I came back after a long time. So sofar mine is Cartherage. For Hannibal! :king:

My memory with France is that it was my first micromanaging game (won by domination on Emperor). But my favourite is Germany.

Scandinavia, Germany, Japan and Mongolia is #1 for me. Byzantium is right up there too with the greek fire galleys. I find Netherlands insanely powerful but I don't like playing as them for some reason.

Might be my weird Agricultural antipathy... :(

I think is the Mayas. (At least until you reach emperor)
They have a powerfull combination, being agricultural an industrious. Industrious make me advance in commerce/cash/culture via workers (I think) faster than oher civs, even in Conquests. Agricultural gives me more food => more settlers/workers when I reached monarchy. So, when I´m in Monarchy easily I build ASAP all the roads to have cash and then I rush the marketplace in each city. Whe I reached that place, I´m ready to build up as a powerfull republic that can build/improve military as needed. The next is war for the luxuries.
I alwais keep myself up in teh tech lead with this strategy. They have a usefull UU when you use it aganist the powerless barbarians: I put one javelin thrower just aside a barb camp I await for them to attack me. Or i use this UU to attack the encampments. When there is a barbarian rush I usualy recover 2 or 3 slave workers to use from there to the end of the game. I got some time 5 in a row!
What do you think?

Still getting used to the Conquests Civs for can't speak for them. But until I'm versed in their ways it's got to be China hands down. Of course it has to be added that all Civs are great to play when you play to their strengths.

Back in Vanilla it was always the Persians for me. Scientific + Industrious + Immortals just seemed awesome to me. Now that I've started playing C3C, I use the 'Play Random Civ' option every time and I find I really enjoy it. I've played quite a few civs I would never had chosen before and realized that most of them can be powerful if played well.

I go through different ones. Back in vanilla it was Egypt, France or China.

In Conquests I went through a Maya phase and Greeks. I try different things though. My current is Korea. Really like their UU.

I keep a list of the civs I've played in the games that I've won. And when I start a new game, I use a civ that's not on that list.

I will say, however, that "Religious" and "Industrious" are both very good matches for my personal playstyle. My first Spaceship victory was with the Egyptians.

I can never seem to do well without the expansionist trait. With scouts I frequently get about 3 - 5 free techs and 1 - 2 free settlers/cities, not to mention gold and warriors. Without them I lag behind the AI and get discouraged.

I mainly use the Ottomans, the Persians or the Babylonians. But now I'm trying out the Iroquois.

The Germans are my favorite civ, even tho I rarely play them anymore. Mostly cause im half German and it just feels right blitzing my enemies with panzers.
Lately tho, the Romans and Carthaginians are takin over.

I've been trying to play all available civs to determine this question, but so far haven't achieved this because a new version of Civ keeps popping up and then I feel the need to start again. My favourite Civ will be determined solely on the best score, and so far with Civ3Conquests the Romans have a 19,000 point lead with 13 civs played and finished. My highest score with vanilla Civ was with the Persians, and Play The World was with the Romans again. I don't think I'd have played all civs in C3C before CivIV comes out, as I've still got about 20 games still to play, and I only play huge maps, with each game averaging 6 weeks.

Persia. I still think scientific and industrious is a good match all the way through emperor level. And "Immortal diplomacy" can be fun.

Though since I had played more and more I am no longer dependent on them or any particular civ.
