I've only got Playstation Civ2 these days, but when my computer worked I'd hardly play the World Map at all. In Civ 1, I used to love it, and the best starting place was China - you got a coastal capital on a river and loads of room to expand outwards. I remember one game I played when I covered the whole of the Asian mainland, Europe and Africa with railroads just for the hell of it. The Civ 2 world map is good to play as the English or Celts if you want a challenge because they start with no room for expansion at all and you have to fight off the European civs just to make a second city.
