I'm so happy, I finally figure out how to get around the railroad bug!:) I don't know if anyone have figured this out yet, but I did this on my own; I'm so happy (may be for the next few seconds before someone shoot me down again).

Basically, if I go to war with an enemy that doesn't understand the secret of Steam Power, I won't be able to connect my railroad to the captured town. To get around this problem, I give them the secret of Steam Power free of charge before I go to war with them. Very simple! Isn't it? I wish I have thought about this before.:)

Very simple indeed. The only problem is that he may trade it with other tribes for an enorbanent (i can't spell) amount of gold, so the tribe you were so prepared to take out isnt quite so defeatable.

At the stage of the game that I have railroads I just bypass the captured cities for my rail network, after the game is saved and reloaded the problem is fixed. The problem is the reload usually is long after the war is over so I just don't count on captured cities for my offensive rail network. I would use your tactic if my tech position were secure and there was no downside to giving my opposition that tech.

When you capture an enemy city that doesn't have steam power you can't connect railroads to it until you reload.

I don't think you necessarily have to reload. I'd guess it takes 5 to 10 turns to fix itself on average in my games?

What if you completely elminate the civ before they get Steam Power, would the rail fix itself after (let's say) 20 turns later? I wasn't aware that it will fix itself eventually.

___

@Civrules: I'm not worrying about them using my gifts to buy alliance against me because immediately after I give away all my techs upto Steam Power, the whole world would be on my side before the end of that turn; so, there is no worry there.;)

yes it does fix itself after 5-10 turns, I wouldnt give a free tech to my future enemies but o well its up to you ;)

What version is this, I have been able to build my railnetworks into former territories the same turn I take a city. And the AI civ does not have steam power yet. I do not play any patched version of Conquests.

C3C v1.15b has the problem, I thought that all versions of C3C had it. You can build railroads they just wont hookup to captured cities. You get a road hookup. For blitzkrieg attacks where you bring in workers to upgrade roads to railroads, the road connection at captured cities will stop your worker advance because you use 2/3 turns going through the city and the other 1/3 turn moving onto the road you want to upgrade.

I'm using patch 1.15. Sure you can build rails into the recent acquired enemy territories, but it won't be able to connect your rails to the recently captured cities. If your rails won't connect into the city, you will lose your movement point (remember that if the rail is connected, all movment on rails cost nothing).

This bug has been discussed in this thread were I put in some screenshots.
I have no clue what triggers the railroads to connect to the cities finally. From the game of which I took the screenshots I am pretty sure that it is not a new tech gained by the other civ. Nor is it a new tech gained by yourself. And reloading didn't help for me. The three cities to the right (at my screenshots) were disconnected for some 6 to 8 turns, IIRC, while it took only 2 turns for the cities to the left. For sure, there was at least one loading of a saved game in between.

Ah, and I think I remember that bug to have been reported prior to C3C 1.15, already.

Yes, reloading doesn't work for me either. May be it will be connected after I discover another industrial tech.

I truely have never seen this in at least a half dozen Conquest games. I rail up to newly taken cities all the time. Then rail beyond the newly taken city up to the new front line. I have stacks of workers on detail just for this. I take a city, rail to the new front line, then bring up the tanks, attack the next city, take it, rail again to the new front line, rinse and repeat until I don't want to advance any longer.

Maybe the civ I'm fighting with has Steam Power then. Guess I've never run into this particular bug. On Monarch the AI is usually on par with me technology wise so they usually have Steam Power when I do.

I have also encountered this event. However, two turns after taking the city, I got a peace treaty and the following turn all the cities conquered in the war were on my railnet. I was the only civ with Steam so I guessed it just had to do with the fact I was at war with the original city owner and when I wasn't, it vanished.

Ah. . .looking at the dates, it appears someone revived an older thread.

I was getting worried there.
