Very, take Zouave for example, she/he has been posting about C3's flaws for months... Yet still playes it! I think that the hypocrite loves the game!
A fair question, although filled with derogatory cracks. Typical.
Here is the answer. . .
I waited over five years for Civ 3 and spent countless hours discussing what it should be after Civ 2 came out. The result?? Firaxis does a buggy and beta Civ 3 and ignored most of what we wanted; it leaves out vital game features such as scenarios and Cheat Mode; gives us a simplified and LESS realistic game; throws in crazy concepts such as Settler Diarrhea, Culture Flipping, and massive corruption; and removes all the fun of spying and naval warfare. Plus it offers up an AI that is not only dumb but IN YOUR FACE and cheats. The game is also a giant step back historically.
So all Firaxis has to do is GET IT RIGHT. Or, promise us, and show us the legally-binding documents, that Firaxis will NOT do Civ 4.
As for me, I am nearing burn out.
Civ 3 is most interesting when playing on a large map with a dozen or more other civs. Unfortunately, the game is so slow in the Modern period it soon becomes an exercsie in tedium, especially when moving huge numbers of individual units. The 'J' command only slightly helps, especially as you still have to wake up every fortified unit.
On smaller maps, the AI is akin to fighting a ******** person with a 70 IQ (at best) with a real evil streak who cheats. I'm tired of the same stupid AI moves, or the same Diplomatic CRAP where the AI refuses some great deal owing to some bullbleep about my reputation - something that occured three thousand years earlier when some civ attacked ME.
If we had SCENARIOS we could get right into a Modern Era game with a manageable number of units. But we have no scenarios.
So I'm playing it less and less, even though I well know the system, unlike other games such as Europa Universalis II. The smaller maps are too easy to win, or AI cheating too outrageous, or, with the larger maps, it is too time consuming and tedious, in addition to the other problems.
So maybe I'll be on the EU 2 boards soon. You can only fool so many people, Firaxis.
And your AI does "stink like poop". It's a damn shame after we waited this long for Civ 3.
