"Fire" Developer Diary

I read in the civilization list in the FfH2 post that Basium's civilization...mercanium people...something like that, anyways it says they are sceduled for release in the fire phase. Any news on them?

Yes, we will probably talk about the Mercurians next week.

I just added this weeks entry. Its about the Armageddon counter and the WarScript.

Edit: I mean, the whole reason for 'Fire' is to make it more possible to polarize the realms between Good and Evil, the Neutrals, (which Grigori epitomize) are just gonna get squelched.
Getting caught in the middle is not the only logical possibilty; maybe they'll be left to their own as good and evil focus on each other; or maybe they'll be wooed by both sides to help out in the war. The secret will lie in the warscipt, I think.

the warscripts and armagedon counter look great, like they'll capture a bit of the feel of scenarios and make games have more atmostphere :)

Glad you like it. My favorite feature of the WarScript is that its completly written in Python (I did have to expose some additional SDK info to python to do it). So folks like you that want to play with the ai logic (or do some fancy stuff with on of the civs) will be able to without having to dig into the SDK.

Armagedon Counter sounds great! I've been looking at ways of "increasing tension" as the game progresses - and this sounds like just the thing to do so.

One question though - you mention that the Mercurians will go to war with all evil empires -- if they just meet someone late game, will they still give the "friendly" welcome message - then declare war? Or will they be able to declare war as soon as they meet someone new and evil? (definately hoping the later)

Good job, good job. If we add an Israeli civ, I assure you I will fight for their civ hero to be Jono:D

So what of a bandit hero? I say that there be a hero dedicated to threadjacking - I have suggestions for his name. :)

Basium will declare war with any Ashen Veil civilization he encounters. Im not sure which message comes first. The reason I don't know is that until recently he wasn't limited by who he had met (the WarScript pushed wars even if you hadn't met that opponent yet). I just fixed that but I haven't played an Ashen Veil game since fixing it to know how the messages come across.

British-Hebrew civilisation (Leader, Benjamin Israeli)
That's the funniest thing I've read all day, and I just finished reading Order of the Stick (I'm sure Kael and any other D&D players will appreciate it a lot, it's a great comic). Sigged.

Incidentally, the stigmata-style effects which depend on the Armageddon Counter sound amazing - this has to be one of the most ambitious, impressive, result-achieving mod projects I've ever had the good fortune to enjoy. Worth the cost of Civ4 just for FfH2 alone. The 16th is already shaping up to be a good day (Hot Fuzz is out! Yay!), but this takes the biscuit :)

might be good to make AI civs declare war on their enemy civs (especially when Raging barbs is checked, since an AI in war mode survives the raging barbs easily)

we've played tons of Always War/Raging barb games with my modmod, and in it i removed the barb bonuses to the AI, and found that before we meet the AIs they sometimes die, but after we meet them they dominate the barbs. the reason for this is because before we meet them the Always War option doesn't come into effect, so they have no wars and are in peace mode, despite being in a dangerous condition (i.e. barbs mass attacking), but after we meet them, the AIs declare war automatically and then theyre in war mode. having some minor wars always going on would help the AI to survive the barbs and benefit from them the way players do (in our games the AIs get tons of xp like a player does, because they build tons of units and fight a lot of winning fights against the barbs).

What I find funny about it is that Benjamin is a Hebrew name :).

Okay, it's not all I find funny about it. Of course, I do feel as if no one's taking me seriously, even though I do not believe I intended to be taken seriously to begin with.
