"Fire" Developer Diary

An other idea to balance things up could be a building prerequisite. Like Copper workshop, Iron forge, Mythril crafter. The weapon type would only be available to units built in cities that have the needed building

So whats the highest the counter will get? and when it gets there what will happen?... like some sort of Ragnarök-ish type event or something would be pretty cool

Regarding the incentives to band together, someone (possibly a couple of people) suggested adjustments to the war weariness mechanic, possibly even a "negative" version providing happiness bonuses, or at least reduced penalties, for civs who fight alongside their co-aligned allies against the opposing forces, probably tied to the armageddon level in some way. In fact, you could fairly easily make war weariness heavier for going "against the grain" at medium-to-high armageddon counts. This would, of course, apply equally in MP as in SP without forcing you into otherwise undesirable wars until the counter gets really high (which makes sense). We'll have to see how it plays out really :)

New entry added to the first post. This time about the Sheaim.

Well, my first Fire game I'll be playing the Sheaim. Shouldn't this close the melee tree for the Sheaim?

You mean from a tech perspective? I dont know. There are so many dependancies that I hate to do that. Plus with the new ore model they may want to get up to iron working just to give iron weapons to the few melee units they get a hold of (through domination, religious heroes, possibly for mounted if we use that, and a few of their gate units are melee).

So I think we will let them have it, but it definitly isnt as good for them as it is for other civs.

Hm, you said no melee units beyond warrior, But are there reacons and mounted units available to them?
And pyre zombies?

At least a little something to avoid beying 100% dependent on summons and gate creatures?

Yes to all questions (they can still build recon and mounted units). I had to take away the Pyre zombies requirement for the training yard (which they can't build anymore) but they are still there. Its only the traditional melee units that were removed (axemen, macemen, immortals, etc etc).

That's a good idea, war weariness reduction would be subtle but useful.

And about warrior weapons, they lose them if they upgrade to archers. (It's scouts who upgrade to mounties.)

Allright! Sounds good.

About hyborem's invocation, I was thinking about it, and I noticed that in my games, by the time the Ashen Vei is founded, most of the map is allready pretty crowded since I Always add players to the default amount.

I find thoses games whith 3 to 7 cities per players much more interesting. But anyways, what is going to happen to hyborem in those scenarios? Is he gonna appear stuck between 2 close cities or far away on the remaining unsettled island?

Right now Hyborem will declare war and try to take a city by force. I definitly wouldnt recommend adding civs beyond the default for the map.

But we are still thinking about it. I will probably end up giving Hyborem a spell that he can only use if he has been around for x amount of turns and still doesn't have a city. Something that will allow him to raise a new hellish land mass out of the ocean and teleport all of his units to it.

What's that black blob to the right of the minotaur?

Oh, and I can confirm that the plural of succubus is succubuses or succubi ;)

Tar demon (probably just temporary art). Right now it looks like a jelly elemental and it makes me laugh when it wobbles around the screen.

Jelly elemental? Is that the mysterious 22nd sphere that only the One knows about? It could be a quest in Ice... find the Jelly of Power and defy the will of the One!

+5 vs Peanut Butter Golems.

Interesting, but then you would have trouble with lakes maps (and oasis, great plains, etc.)

I'm really trying to give ideas istead of just critisizing but I admit it,s not an easy problem.

Might just give him a hellish settler and advise players like me not to overcrowd the map.

Or give him a spell to convert a random size 3 or below city after x amount of turns without capturing any city. (Might give evil civs moer chance of having their 3- city converted)

If this is python doable of course. I'm trying ;)
