i think it is funny how your people set off fireworks in the ancient age with we love the king days

do they know gunpowder and i don't

They burn flammably materials, and strike metals like copper, that give off different colors of fire, thus giving it the appearance of fireworks. ;)

If I remember correctly, copper gives off a blue color, boron is green, magnesium is white, and strontium is red. Of course, in 2000 BC the periodic table only had about 4 elements in it ;), so your point is well taken.

I remember the first time they proclaimed, "We Love the King" and I didn't have one. I wasted some time in the manual with that one. The first time I saw fireworks, I thought I was under attack. ;)

Yeah does things annoy me. If only they varied for each age. Maybe flag waving later on.

yes, me too! moreover when you burn fireworks it smells and stinks and the smoke makes your eyes burn. now look what's happening of these things in civ:

nothing! absolutely nothing! :ack:

:D

The fireworks don't bother me, but it's true that they are inappropriate early in the game.
I thought maybe smoke rings from a fire might work until the discovery of gunpowder.
We still use fireworks today for celebration, along with fly overs by jets, gun salutes, wavy flags, balloons, confetti. I couldn't think of anything else. I suppose some of these might work.
Anyone else have a different idea as to a visual display of celebration?

I thought if funny how in one modpack "Fireworks" are a great wonder you can build when you've researched gunpowder, but nearly every one of my cities will have fireworks by that time anyway!

Chinese had fireworks quite early....I could look it up because I'm not sure of what the dates are.

Does anyone know off the top of their head?

i remember once when my friend, who had never seen or heard of civ, and i were playing a hotseat game and he asked me why he couldnt build units with guns in the anciet age and i pulled up the tect tree and explained to him that he needed gunpowder and then he closed the science advisor and showed me the we love the king day celebration and said but i have fireworks

before that i had never really thought of that and now whenever i see the fireworks i think of that and chuckle to myself

The first time I say we love the king day I thought my people were revolting and were shotting stuff into the sky.

the firework dont bother me much, but this other thing dose

the iroquis UU,the mounted warrior,i read somewhere that there was no horses on the american continent untill the spanish brought them

as there never was horses there untill 1600 something

so of the indian warrior of the wild west cliche, dude with feathers, remintong rifle and horse, the horse and the rifle would both be relatively new to the warrior

Yes, but the golden age of the Iroquois was in the 1700s. They had horses then.

Good point, but did they have a good enough grasp of it and enough of it to make it seen over an entire city? As i understand it they used them in firecrackers for frightening away evil demons and in battle for confusing the enemy.

These are actually some really good ideas, confetti, jet fly-byes etc. I hope the good fellows at Firaxis catch this stuff.

Out of all things to care about
