This is my first post made on these forums, so I would like to thank the entire community for helping provide strategy tips, mods, and excellent advice. Now, to the meat of the problem . . .
To keep this post short, I have attached my DXDiag and game save to this post. The DXDiag file lets you know everything you would need about my system specs.
Game Build Specs:
BtS v3.13
Unofficial BTS 3.13 Patch (v1.11 by Bhruic)
Dale's Combat Mod v1.5
Map:
Earth (Civ 4), Huge
18 Civs
This is the first time I have ever attempted to play on a 'Huge' map, let alone with 18 civilizations. Most crash posts on this forum deal with Civ 4 and BtS being memory hogs, but I do not think this is the problem in my case. When running, and crashing, my CPU usage never rises above 5% and my memory never above 50%.
So, when does the crash occur? Always when ending my turn in 1380 AD, in this particular game. When I load an earlier point of the same game (e.i. 1360, or 1375 AD), the game crashes once I end my turn on 1380 AD--the screen goes black, music still plays (does not loop), and the small 'world' cursor (illustrating that the game is 'busy') appears, and then Windows tells me that the program needs to close because it is not responding.
After being taken aback by my first crash with this game, I started to wonder . . . Have I changed anything recently? Settings? Hardware? Software? . . . Nope! Nothing has been changed recently. So what on earth can it be?
What I have tried:
System Defrag
Memory Cleaning
Registry Cleaning
Popular INI changes to fix past problems (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=145238)
Downloaded and installed latest graphics drivers
Used nVidia Control Panel to set acceleration from "Quality" to "Performance"
Set graphics in-game to lowest possible (including screen resolution)
Let graphics card cool off (even though it is never even 'warm')
Canceled memory-hog background programs (like anti-virus software)
I recognize that others have experienced compatibility issues with their nVidia 8800 GT series cards, but I'm not so sure this is my problem. You see, I have played this game since it came out, always with this same graphics card . . . So why am I having problems now?
I admit, until recently I have been a WorldBuilder addict. Even if I was the leading civ, if something didn't go my way it was [Ctrl + W] and everything went 'my way' . . . This is the first time I have played on 'Noble' difficulty (a challenge for me, lol) and have scrambled the Admin password so I cannot use WB--surprisingly, I am doing great! I have never enjoyed a game so much . . . That is until it has decided to quit on me at the end of 1380 AD no matter what I do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please try playing the saved game yourself to see if you encounter my same problem.
