When you play Sid Meier's Civilization, your first decision is chosen from the following options:
- start a new game (N);
- earth (E);
- customize game (C).

Which one is your favourite?
I vote for N because I love to dig into the unknown.

I feel most accustumed to earth. It's my favorite. :)

I've never played Earth. I like exploring the unknown. I usually customize because I prefer more land. Otherwise you get lots of islands or big oceans you can't explore with triremes. Sometimes I just start a default/random new game.

Always (C). I like exploring too, one of the most fun things about the game. In recent years I've liked water worlds, going for Navigation, and building the naval wonders...

Always C too. Then it's Large Landmass. I find those most fun because of the battles and situations that arise. Usually Large landmass means:

1. One large landmass with 6 civs on it + an island with 1 civ + a few scattered lands.
2. Two large landmasses with 3 civs and 4 civs on them and with islands scattered around.
3. 7 civs on one large landmass (the most fun)

I play EARTH when I want to act out history. I usually ALT - R and randomize the personalities here so in every game it isn't just the same old Aztecs beating the Americans to own the Americas and such..

My computer's random number generator is very different from yours. I always get a dozen huge continents that are twisting mazes of inlets and peninsulas, usually about 6 squares across at any given point. They are so twisty that my ships usually take the entire game to circumnavigate them. I'd much rather have the one large landmass or two large landmasses. I hate all these funny-shaped islands.

Mostly Start a new game. It's more exciting because I'll never know what I'll get.

up to 10 times ( of °*1000s*° of civDOS games )
i did hit accidently 'start a new game' )

in many ways these games were some of the most interesting i did play.

i usually hit 'customize...'
large landmass, 5 billion years, normal climate, 7 tribes
and so on...

I totally agree with you. The first humans to evolve on Earth had no control over such items as climate, land mass or planet's age. By choosing «N», I'm recreating that spirit of a mysterious world. I wish there was an option for randomizing the number of civs. That would be pretty cool and would add to the mystery.

However, now and then I also like to customize. Normally, I do this when I start a new game just after finishing a long game, to ensure that the new world will be very different from the previous.

"Earth", sometimes "New game". I like to play through different versions of the history on the same map... "New game" usually brings more excitement than pre-customized one.
