First Diety Game Advice

Well, I only know the Vikings and the English and England is working on the sistine chapel. Its just us three on the continent, nobody has met anyone else yet. I dont think I will have a chance to make any ground on my first free tech. I am very backwards. I think I am 20 turns away from rep, plus the revolution. All I have is bronze, iron, masonry, alphabet, writing, literacy, code of laws, philosophy, pottery and warrior code. Thats why I am putting so much hope in the viking war and trying for a huge peace settlement. After that, I may need to team up with the vikings in order to contain england. I wasted a lot of men on tit for tat fighting, but I think I can still make a decent sized sword stack and I hope that will carry me. I have a nice base of about 14 cities and am hoping for a GL to make a FP. It would be nice to get out of despotism soon, but OTOH it is letting me afford a big army, 40 troops. Too bad many are stuck on MP duty. I dont have any religion yet and I need temples. So much to do.

Thank you for your help Aggie, your advice is always very helpful.

I just snuck home at lunch to check the situation, England wont give up mapmaking, but they will sell me CB for 60 and world map. The Vikings are only offering one early tech and a bit of gold for peace, so I need to hit them harder. I just wonder what/if they would give me if I made peace and allied with them vs england.

Anyhow my cities are size 4 or 5 with one MP in them , I could use the temples, and they are going to be my first priority.

I figure my chances of making first contact across the sea are slim, like winning the lottery. Especially against england, they are working on the Greatlighthouse. But, I have to try because, like the lottery if I dont play, I cant win.

I think its over. I managed to get first contact after all, and that got me out of the age. Then I paid england 100 for their world map only to be stunned in amazement at the size of their empire. They took over most of the Viking lands giving them an empire three times my size and a 1000 point lead on the histograph. That left me and a gimpy Vikings against the number one civ in the world.

They started a war on me very soon after. At the cost of my army, I fought them to a peace treaty ( I only had to pay 40gold).

Now I am at peace for the monemt, have no army to speak of and am two techs into the second age and I am facing the number one world power on my continent. England has cavalry.

Can I quit now?

Why?

You managed to fight of the English without a very big loss on your side. How far behind in tech are you?

Remember that points only count at the end of the game, 2050 AD. You could still go for a space race (no kidding).

By the way: you can always learn from a game like this. Just try to do something with your free tech in the industrial age, focus on building money making improvements and hang in there until you really lost (or won). It's just like a tennis match. You can have 3 matchpoints against you and two sets down, but still you can win in such a situation.

You could download your save here and let us have a look. I'm really curious about it :)

OK, I will try to sneak home at lunch again and post it.

You might notice that I am in Monarchy when, yesterday I was talking about republic. I did that on purpose because I was expecting a fight and thought I might be able to outlast england if they were in a republic (which, in fact is what might have happened last night to very limited effect).

Now sitting here, it dawns on me that I was 2 turns away from republic when I discovered all the other civs and did a big round of trading. During the trading I acquired monarchy and did a revolution. I think after the revoultion I forgot about republic and switched resaerch right away. I wasted a 40 turn run to republic.

Anyway, given my relative position in the world it appears that I need to give peace a chance and get republic or democracy.

I said I was 2 techs into the second age and england had cav, they also have sistine chapel. Thats how far back I am from them, I would guess 4 or 5 back from the pack. I am dead last on the histograph.

1) Scientific-why bother? You'll be buying or trading techs more then researching them cold.
2) Late age UU's such as F14s or Panzers.

I have to disagree with superslug here, I actually won my first deity game as the americans, sure they have a terrible UU but their traits more than enough make up for their UU, Expansionist and Industrious are perfect traits as far as I'm concerned for a deity win.

And like every one else said, don't give up, a deity game is not over till it's over, Your opponents might be huge buy the modern age be prepared to get "strategic missle defense" and use nukes if you have too. Also you can skip alot of techs and come back and get them later... (Democracy.. etc)

Good luck!

You need more workers budweiser! You only have 4, but the work the land properly you need about 20. They are also very important for railroads.

Also: build the Foreign Palace, somewhere in the centre of your empire (Konigsberg?). Later you can switch your palace, but the FP is crucial.

Also, build more marketplaces to genertae more money.

Your behind a lot, but this is very common in a deity game. Not to worry :)

Thanks for looking. I had 10 workers, I just lost some in the final turn of the war. I was trying to build a mountain fort, but I got overrun before it could get finished.

I'll keep going for another session tonight. I'll get some workers, get republic and make more markets and a FP.
