We had an Xbox LAN gathering this weekend and I played Halo for the first time. I'd only played PC first person shooters before and found the joypad to be harder to use than my tried and true PC mouse for such a game. But a friend of mine completely disagrees, having played hours and hours of Goldeneye...

Which do you prefer?

Definitely a mouse. A mouse is far more motion sensitive which enables you to have more flexibility in the game. Besides, I had a Wingman Extreme, and boy, did I tear that son of a gun into pieces on day two of Castle Wolfenstein! :D:undecide:

MOUSE

Of course over the years i have played games such as Quake 3, Rainbow Six, and other shooter games. I only use my gamepad for flying games, Mortal Kombat 4, and NHL 2002.

Mouse since Quake I. All you had to do in Quake I to emulate half-life esque control was to assign backspace as free mouse look button and place a heavy stone on it :D Then keyboard can do 4 movement of foward, back and 2 sidestep.

I never got why you needed joypad to play professionally and I certainly dont understand these days considering all the games have adopted the half life way of mouse being freelook and keyboard being 4 way movement.

Mouse. But that may just be because I've never owned a console game since the NES (remember that one?), and pads give me blisters. :p

EDIT: You are getting a biased poll on this forum, as most people here are PC users and not necessarily console gamers. Try asking at a gaming-related site's forum.

Oh, On console VS PC.... I was thinking of those lame joypads made for PC FPS shooting.

Halo didnt seem too bad. But thats because they have some sort of lock that helps you aim as long as your cursor is somewhat near the target. Even without that, it felt better than goldeneye for seom reason, and trust me, i suck at console control... only if they had mouse and keyboard... id rule all my friends.

P.S My friends would probably say joypad is superior

Mouse, nixon explained why.

But the only first person shooter-like game I play is Operation Flashpoint, I don't really like the "Ballerspiele".

I'd have to vote for both, if there was the option. Since I had to pick, I chose Joystick. I have gotten used to the mouse control for many of the latest PC games, but I have played a lot of GoldenEye and Rainbow 6 for N64, and find that method quite easy to use. Since I have played more FPS on N64 than I have on computer, I have more experience with the handheld controller, and went with that method.

I would vote for Both.

A mouse, anytime. Or at least until I fall for a console and get comfortable with joypads. :ack:

Mouse, definitely.

mouse

Mouse and keyboard easily. Alot more functions can be assigned to the keyboad. My firend has Timespliters 2 gor the Gamcube and whenver we play multiplayer I always think that this would be so much easier with a mouse and keyboard. As for the playstation 2 I just hope that they will build in mouse and keyboard support for Deus Ex 2 as my PC will definatly not be able to handle it and I have a USB mouse and keyboard for my PS. Either that or I get some money together and get a new PC.

Mouse + Keyboard (mouse for looking, w a s d for moving forwards/backward and strafing left/right)

Mouse + Keyboard became a necessity, starting with Quake 1. Once I got used to it I never wanted to go back to just keyboard. And I still like it better than a joypad.
