Hello everyone. This is the story of my first win on prince difficulty on Civ5.
I've never done this before, so please bear with me, and I apoligize if I chose the wrong prefix.
Playing as the US on a huge Terra map, standard speed, and, like I said, prince difficulty.
I never won a game on Noble on Civ 4, and the other two games I had on prince on Civ5 didn't go too well.I thought this one might turn out the same way, but I just went for it anyway.
I started inland with no access to the sea.I was following the Liberty tree, so I got some early expansion. My military wasn't that great but I was doing pretty good in score and in the tech race.I also had a DOF with Rome, who was to my east.
The Japanese attacked me a couple of times, but they were pretty far away and never did much damage.
So, I was having mostly peace, until one day I noticed some Roman troops around my borders.I kinda thought, 'He might backstab me,' but I didn't really think to much about it.Next turn Rome declares war, and Agustus did backstab me.
I obviously wasn't prepared for war, but I had to try.
The Romans started advancing into my borders, and were attacking Philidelphia, coming pretty close to capturing it.But at the last minute I managed to strike a peace deal with him, giving him most of my gold(which was only 50 something)and open borders.
So I was safe from Rome for the time being.
After this I remained pretty good in tech and started building up my military some.I was now more cautious in making DOFs.
Eventually Rome declared war on Persia, whom I kinda liked. At this point, with my military now about as good or better than Rome's, I decided to help Persia, and me and Rome went to war again.
With so many Roman troops around my borders already, most of the initial fighting was done near or in my borders, but this time I was inflicting heavy losses on the Romans.Althought his army was pretty badly battered, he had pikemen back in his land, and I was kinda afraid to send my knights in there with them.So I came up with an idea:Move my troops back into my territory and get the pikemen to chase, and then I could use my trebuchet(or catapult.I can't remember which it was)to bombard them.
The plan worked, and when the pikemen came, they were quickly anihilated.
With the Roman army battered I took my army south toward one of their cities, which fell rather easily.Eventually, I took another city and, with that, made peace.I might coud've done more, but I had made my point. The Romans would never again pose a serious threat to me, and I emerged as one of the most powerful and advanced Civs in the world.
After dealing with some postwar economic and happiness problems, my nation entered a period of great prosperity.I had founded a new city that provided an outlet to the ocean, and I started settling the other continent.
I got into some more wars policing my home continent from evil nations, but none of them ever posed a serious threat. With my tech lead, I was going for a scientific victory, and won rather easily in 2007 or 2008(I can't remember which it was).
That was my first prince victory and the most epic game I've ever had on Civ 5, although I haven't played many full ones...yet...
