First Review I Trust

Yeah having my doubts. Internet media didn't have the final version until about a week ago and they don’t have reviews up yet (Well IGN does but they can’t have had much time with the final version either) and print media take a lot longer to get their articles published. Its therefore almost impossible for him the have played the final build enough to do a good review and get it printed.

Big chance it was an earlier build. Many print mags are guilty of reviewing early builds. Sort of understandalbe since they've a hard time bringing up to date info compared to websites, but not a healty practise.

Still I’m sure it will have its fair share of bugs though, it isn’t exactly a simple game to program. Still I’m sure Firaxis will work hard to fix those.

But hey scoring that high despite the bugs.... must be a great game then!

My Answer: My Own "Review"

Well, I`m of the opinion that bugs shouldn`t really subtract too much from the overall score. Bugs can and often do tend to get fixed pretty fast, but if the concept and layout of the game itself has flaws in it, then that`s something you cannot really fix. Firaxis has an excellent track-record of bringing out patches and ironing out bugs, so the review should probably stick to "has a couple of bugs but they will probably get fixed pretty soon".

So if bugs are what lowered it to 92% at pcgamer, then I`m very very optimistic indeed.

PC Gamer (UK Version) is a magazine which gave Civ Call To Power a 90+ score. They regularly review half-assed review copies. :P

<Redundancy pile on>My question is how you can trust a print magazine that obviously could not have played the version in the box? The game didn't go gold till last week, so if they reveiwed it they reviewed a copy well before that if they have their magazine in print and on shelves.</Redundancy pile on>

Sure they do. The game went Gold exactly a week ago. In that time, they've played enough games to completion to write a decent review, and then done layout of the magazine, got it to the printer who then printed it and then shipped it to the newsstand you bought it at?

Riiiight.

Exactly. Printed magazines are generally sent to production about 30-90 days prior to the time the magazine is available for purchase. There is no way the reviewer played the gold version. Also, the last month or 2 prior to going gold is spend resolving bugs.

Nothing can be concluded from this magazine review. Plus, a 92% desite crashing bugs, etc????? That right there gives you an idea of the quality of the review.
