Ha ha! I managed my first win! I won by score at 2050 on Warlord with 3 AI civs. The Chinese tried to come back and steal my victory by building a spaceship, but they ran out of time. In case they got close, I had 3 tactical nukes on subs, a dozen or more stealth bombers within striking range, and 3 armies of four modern armored tanks with first strike capability on the capital. Their capital could've been toast in one turn. My score of 3654 was greater than the combined score of both of the remaining civs plus about 1000 pts.

Now, I will upgrade from 1.16f to 1.17f and increase either the number of civs or the level of difficulty. Any suggestions on which I should do first?

I realize that there are multiple >Warlord players who have won. My games just take awhile since I have little time nowadays, and I felt my accomplishment deserved a post.

Congratulations !

I exclusively play on huge maps / regent level / v1.16.

This week end, just to get the quick out of it, I tried my first game on standard map, emperor level. I won almost easily... Playing on standard maps was a whole different game than what I was used to, it's definitely faster.

anyway, I would strongly advise you against the 1.17 patch.

Stack movement isn't that important to me, but I saw some others that got my interest.

EDIT-
Oh, I just read your post on the tech trading advantage. Doggone, you have armed me with information. That was my easy decision! Thanks ::eye roll::

Congratulations!

My first win was at year 2050 (the last turn) by space victory. There was a pretty animation at the end.

Try this now. You'll like it. :goodjob:

Yes, it does deserve a post!

I got a Diplomatic victory on warlord last week, and I was pumped, not only because of it being my first win other than by total points, but because of how it happened.

It was 2047 and I (Germany) was fighting against Persia and Japan. And, of course, I was loving those Panzers. My allies were the Zulus and French. While building the UN wonder, I got a GL. It took a turn to ship him by transport to the intended city. In 2048, I rushed the UN. In 2049, I won the Diplomatic victory by a 3-2 vote. I cheered out loud, scaring the wife and kids.

Go Civ3!

Struggling on Regent now. Any tips? What is the best civ for Regent?

My first win was a score victory where no one got close to any of the victory conditions because research was so slow. My next game I won easily on culture and recently I won my first game on warlord by launching the spaceship in 2001.

Damn you're good man, you're the best.

GOGO Hun GO.
You're the winner!!
woohoo:king: !!

Your score is whopping, its crazy :crazyeyes

:egypt:

GO for it, next up is regent yeah, with 7 civs, thats the goal for you now!!

Upgrade to 1.17f!

:nuke:

What are the big differences between 1.16 and 1.17? is either one noticably harder?

mainly just stack movement and "exploit" fixes in 1.17.

This is a blatant lie. 1.17 features :

- Accelerated tech research which leads to tanks in 1200AD
- Outrageous AI tech whoring
- Worthless AI cities because of excessive pop rushing.

Those supposed exploits which have been fixed lead to another "exploit", you don't have to research for the whole game : just buy techs from the AI.

Congrats, Hun.

Well, OK - got my first win this weekend playing the Persians on regent, large map, 9civs, no spaceships allowed (so i guess it doesn't qualify for HoF status).

I thought that if I just got 20-25 cities and concentrated on culture I would win by the 20th century. However, while I was peacefully navel-gazing and micro-managing, the English and the Chinese went on massive conquest campaigns. Soon I realized that they were going to forestall my cultural victory, so I "liberated" about 20 more cities of Aztec and Japanese origin (both civ's were eliminated, but not by me) from Queen Elizabeth. So now I had more places to build libraries and such.
Even then, I didn't successfully "double" the English cultural value until 2033. (with a whopping 180,000 cp)

Knowing what I do now about city-flipping and propaganda, I think I coulda won earlier by conquering those towns I felt sure were gonna flip (but didn't). Certainly, the way I did play it, I for sure would have had a hard time if I'd allowed spaceships.

Nonetheless, it felt good to win by being a (relatively) peaceful power that didn't have to suck up to the AI's for a diplomatic victory. (apologies to dojoboy, whose triumph this way should not be diminished)
;)

Next up: monarch level! Wondering how many civ's is best for the LARGE map...is nine enough?

"My score of 3654 was greater than the combined score of both of the remaining civs plus about 1000 pts. "

How did you get your score up so high? I've won several times by domination and space race, but my score has never broke 1000.

Anyone have any tips for increasing score?

Play on higher levels to increase your score. There was actually a thread around here somewhere detailing this. Essentially, score is calculated and then multiplied by 1 for chieftan, 2 for warlord, 3 for regent, 4 for monarch, 5 for emperor and 6 for deity.

Rock on Hun! 3654 is a really high score for warlord.

After two failed attempts at the regent level, both ended up in the trash, I won my first regent game on civ3. It was by domination through the stellar leadership of none other than Shaka Zulu. [Side Note: No Mothers were killed] :)

I'm ashamed to say I broke my personal oath and played it on a tiny map v. England, America, and France. I know everything is even at the regent level, but the AI definitely appears to be more aggresive. Is this true?

Early on I was caught up in a struggle with all the civs to control the largest continent. First, I dispatched England, only after subjugating her earlier. She surprised attacked me for resources, leading to her dismissal. While doing this I had to war w/ America and France for the cities they built on MY continent. I knew if I let them get a foothold my road to victory would be more difficult.

Once I controlled the large continent, I took the histograph lead. However, I remembered losing a regent game (well I trashed it first) when I had a lead to only have India build 9/10 spaceship parts (my surprise attack was decimated). Therefore, each time America began to bully France, I attacked. The first time could have gone either way, except the American AI chose to only recapture his workers from me and pursue an offensive against the French. I wittled him down after two wars and then played the game until the notification of victory by domination. I was becoming concerned that America and France would attack me because they signed two MPPs after I took a clear lead. I was disappointed in the French because I saved their ass twice.

Any how, I finally got that regent monkey off my back --- now to move up a map size. :D

Congrats, dojoboy.

And yes, the Ai gets more and more aggessive as you go up in difficulty level.

What do you think did it for you this game? Was it the Impi? The map size? I ask because my girlfriend is getting totally frustrated at regent but finds warlord too easy. I always suggest trading lots, and buiding a military up until you're broke, but this doesn't always seem to help. :(

Park Ranger, thanks for your response to my question. Your questions are good. This is something I don't do enough of --- reflect on my game-play.

First, the Impi definitely was a plus in allowing me to sustain early battles, pressuring the enemy, and general mucking-up his economy. In the three-four regnet games I've played, the Impi and Jaguar Warrior were the reson for my early successes. The early GL does suck but not a decisive factor --- expansion is.

Second, I believe the map size was a factor, but more importantly, the land arrangement was key. I chose large continents. Fortunately, they ended up one square away from each other at their closest point. In the regent games where I struggled, a war-mongering civ was land grabbing and I could not reach them.

Last, I warred early and often. This was a break from my generally peaceful game-play. I usually do war early, but not often.

I hope this helps her. Got to go to Church.
