I am encountering some really strange behavior. after some time into the game (closing it to windows and restarting will fix it for a while). let's say I want to switch to the next active unit, the screen centers on that unit and then I have to wait many seconds until the action options for that pairtcular unit appear. I can speed it up a bit by e.g. opening the sciencvescreen and going right out of it again. same happens with lots of other things (e.g. the yeloow choose building button). Or, I can click on a city and I will see the production queue of the last city I htriog tnota quee, it takes several seconds for items to pop up (if at all).
I have no idea what's causing this. Before the expansion pack, I had some similar behavior with the next turn button (it would reamin on the button showing that I have an active unit to select, even thoguh I didnt, but pressing once W would make it switch to the next turn state).
CPU is a core i7-920, 12 GB RAM. GPU is a bit outdated (GTX 275), but used to be fine for the game before the exapnsion pack
any ideas?

Moderator Action: Moved to tech support, because it's not a bug.

I'm having this same issue, and updating the graphics drivers did not solve it. Sometimes the game gets stuck for 2 or 3 solid minutes. I have an old computer, but you still shouldn't be having problems like this. I upgraded my graphics card a couple years ago, and never had any problems until the expansion.

A guy I play multi with is having the same issue. long lag times for unit moves/actions and he clicks end turn like 10 times before anything appears to happen.
He had no issues like this before G&K.
Tried the driver update as mentioned above and nothing changed.

He is on an older machine running Vista, but again he wasn't having these 'lag' issues before the expansion.

Me too. If anyone knows any fixes to this I'd be very grateful.

I'm also running Vista so it may be the common factor here. Has this been added to the bug list? Maybe something needs to be addressed differently in Vista or the code is assuming something that isn't so in Vista, so maybe a bugfix is needed?

To recap: When in my turn I cycle through the units giving them commands it can take up to a minute for the "cursor" to shift to the next unit. Also if I click a unit it again takes up to a minute for the cursor to shift to that unit and update the command UI window. However, it doesn't appear to be an issue of a slow processing speed. If I click a unit and immediately after that click a destination hex for a move command the unit executes the move. The command UI doesn't get updated and the cursor doesn't move to that unit but the unit moves. It looks like the unit is indeed active and the thing that is lagging behind is the screen refresh.

Of course, that doesn't much help, because it only allows me to give move/attack commands quickly. Any other command in the UI isn't available as it's still showing the commands of the previous unit. Also, attacking is done semi-blind because the screen doesn't show the associated attack strength info.

After (finally!) having gone through all the units I have to wait for the "next turn" button to appear which again can take a long time for the screen to refresh. Here there's not even a "blind short-cut" as hitting the "unit awaiting command" button doesn't do anything so the actual "next turn" button is still disabled/invisible instead of just masquerading as the previous button. Darn but this problem is annoying... :(

Don't know what to try.

Bingo! Solution: Make sure you really are running the up-to-date driver even if you think you are!

As with all graphics issues that don't appear universal (i.e. to everyone running the game) the natural suspect is the graphics driver. I naturally went to the driver settings and did the look for updates from the driver's own management app. It told me my driver was the latest available so it wasn't that simple, I thought.

Knowing nothing else to try I went to the manufacturer's web site to look if there might be relevant descriptions of problems and tips how to solve. There when I looked at the available driver versions to identify what to look for, to my surprise there was an even newer version of the driver! From its release date it was only a month old so maybe it hadn't been added yet to "official updates" or whatever? Anyway, downloaded the new-new version and, praise both the gods and the kings, it solved the issue! The game is again playable!

My graphics driver is NVIDIA so if you have the same you may want to check the geforce's web site for a new update. Of course, if you are running another card, you may want to check your own manufacturer's website directly even if your driver settings info say you are running the latest.
