I have been making flags easily using Aorta available here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/aorta. Its available in both Windows and Mac OSX versions. A sample of what I have been able to do:

I've been using an iMac and am interested to see if the method I use in this tutorial works on the Windows platform. It appears to be an alternate way of making flags without the use of an alpha channel. I'd appreciated any feedback.

Thanks. Neither did I. Just found another way to get it. How to contact a moderator is not obvious so I am trying an email.

Just a quick point. A flag's 'honour' point is the top left, even when hung as a banner, thus whilst some flags, such as the Union Jack of the United Kingdom can simply be rotated 90 degrees to make a banner, others, that have a less symetrical design need to be rotated and then flipped. Thus the stars on the Union Flag of the United States should be in the top left corner, regardless of how it is flown. Thus your picture of the US flag as a banner above, should be flipped horizontally. As you have it it could cause offense to American Traditionalists.
