Hey,
I've spent the last week trying to fix this curious problem with Civ4 on my desktop, but nothing I do seems to have any effect..
From the opening movie onwards, the graphics are flickering really bad; in this movie the black stripes above and beneath the opening movie are flashing, and when in the main menu, pretty much everything is flashing and flickering. Same thing in the game itself.
It seems kinda like setting a too high refresh rate which a monitor can't handle. I'm sorry I can't describe the problem better, english isn't my language.
The computer is pretty old and meets barely the minimum requirements, so this is probably the problem somehow. Anyway, it would be REALLY nice to figure out where the problem is. The specs: AMD Duron, 256MB RAM, 128 MB nVidia FX 5200 on a Nokia 447i monitor.
I'm running Win XP SP2, which is up-to-date and the latest version of Civ4 (1.52 or whatever this latest patch was
). I've tried pretty much everything and every combination I could come up with, but nothing seems to have any effect: I've tried at least half a dozen different versions of the nVidia driver, some tweaked drivers, drivers from the cards manufacturer, updating my AGP drivers, monitor drivers, Harkonnens patch, the 1.00 and the 1.09 patches for the game, updated my sound drivers, tried to alter pretty much every setting in the game, in the drivers or BIOS I could think of... Hmm.. pretty sure I'm still forgetting something.
Having read tons of posts about all the technical problems people are having with the game I can't be anything but happy and surprised that it at least runs just fine on my laptop..
