Flicster not working?

I recently installed flicster on my new windows 8. So far, I could create a storyboard from a flc, but when I try to export a storyboard into a flc, it just stops working. I get "flicster.exe has stopped working" , and it closes down. I do get a flc file, but it is unopenable by flicster, I figure its just a corrupted file or something. Compatibility mode doesn't seem to work. Does anyone else have this problem?

I tried administrator mode and fewer color mode aswell, but it didn't work. I installed it on my C: SSD, and on my F: hard disk, but neither one works. I'm at a total loss here..

Try running it in "XP Compatible Mode."

.. on my new windows 8. ...
Almost every "stopped working" thread here in C&C has something to do with Win 8. I'm listening to BBC quiz shows, etc. & more than one has had jokes about Windows 8. Point being - it's not necessarily a problem with C3 or any of our utilities.

this doesn't work :/. But there is no fix for windows 8 civ tools so far?

EDIT: I had time to test it on my windows 10 laptop and it seems to work here...

just in case noone checks the utility forum, ill ask here aswell. I want to use civ3flc edit but it has the same issue I had with flicster where an exported flc has the same animation speed as the storyboard, despite me editing the animation delay before exporting.

I could fix this using flicster by exporting as multi flc, editing the animation time in the ini to match delay * frames, and importing it back into flicster. But the problem is that I can't use flicster. And, as it seems, civ3flc edit also doesn't work well enough..

Anyone know a fix for this problem, perhaps? Can I export as multi flc in civ3flc edit aswell, but I just haven't found it yet? Can I edit the animation time? It seems I can only view it under extra > info. I can't edit it there..

I just got back into modding and am having the same trouble with this problem as well. From what I can tell, several of Imperator's units have the wrong animation time, which leads to slow animations in game. It seems hard-coded, but I'm sure there's a fix someone knows :)

I personally noticed that when I tried it a second time with civ3flcedit, it actually changed the animation time to what it was supposed to be. I guess I just did something wrong the first time, so civ3flcedit should do what you want it to do.

Otherwise, if your flicster DOES work, the fix is a little less straightforward but still easy: Export the flic in flicster to multiple flc files (8 files). Then you get 8 direction flcs and 1 .ini. Edit the animation time in the .ini and the import the ini in flicster (make sure to set the file extension to everything). It will automatically create a single flc again with the correct animation time.

but yea, i tested civ3flcedit again thoroughly because I wanted it to work and I guess it did. So for me it's all good.

:D Thanks man, that worked great. For posterity, here's the exact steps I used:

FLC Editor

1. Open .FLC
2. F5
3. Export to Storyboard
4. Open the Storyboard Document
5. F5
6. Export to .FLC
7. F5

That's a strange issue, Ruby. The only trouble I've had with timing is when I miss changing the time on the export tab.

The problem I have with Flicster is that I can't create flcs with an even number of frames. I never heard of anyone else having this problem, but I've always had this issue on multiple computers after many installs with both version 17 and 18. I've had to make all units with odd number frames, and always have to delete or add a frame when working with other people's stuff (like 10 frame fortify animations).

I have flicster working under win8 under compatibility mode Vista(service pack 2) and running as administrator.

How do you import something into flicster?

what do you want to import? You can just open flcs and storyboards with "Open", I don't think flicster has any other functionality besides the multiple flc .ini option.

I did not realize that I could pick 'all files' under Open and actually pull up an ini file to make a flc. Learn something new everyday. Thanks!:)
