Thanks to our two wonders, our libraries, and our temples, we are the cultural leaders. As such, there is the possibility of cultural flips. However, if we want to get the best city from a particular civilization, we will want to rebuff the rebels. The question is whether getting a city earlier will be acceptable, and whether any flippable cities are worth getting.

Here are Chartres, Marseilles, Rouen, Heidelburg, and Cologne, the flippable cities.

In my opinion, none of the cities are worth acquiring. Berlin seems to be the best choice for Germany, and we hopefully will go to war with them before too long. Paris seems to be the best choice for France, although Tours could be a possibility if it gets a wonder. These cities would have slightly less corruption, but not enough to worry about. I think getting a superior city later would be better than getting an inferior city later.

I agree with not flipping any cities. I mean war with Germany would mean razing Hiedelburg, no reason to flip that, plus that would prevent us from getting Berlin. Also, getting a city from France is enticing, put that would require some cultural building, that would divert turns from building forces for a war with the Reich.

It's not a question of trying to flip cities, the cities that TimBently mentions are already at risk of flipping to us! The question is therefore whether we reject the flip or not if they do flip to us. It's a pity we don't get the opportunity to raze the city at that point.

I do not think that any of these 5 cities are the ones that we want to keep, as such we must rebuff the rebels if they try and join us.

I agree, those size 1 fringe cities are not worth much. Berlin would go great with our empire though - good food, production, low corruption ...

that sums it up pretty much for me. those border cities are really small, not going to produce much. Berlin, and to a lesser extent, Paris, however would make great additions to our empire. maybe the barb. problem could open up the door to a war with Germany (and capture Berlin)...

I suggest asking the court this question:

If we accept a city which flips to us and then abandon it before the end of the turn, does it count as acquiring our one city from that civ?
