Do you like the new fog of war?

Unless you're planning on entering the FOW and therefore stopping it from being FOW, how much time do you actually spend staring at empty space?

The action is surely in the bit you can see?

I think we spend a good deal of time looking at it. It's not empty space. It shows resources and terrain features. Those are important considerations whether you're planning a settling expedition or a war.

There's only one other recent thread and it didn't present a poll.

Moreover, this thread presents a slightly more divided result than the thread from June. This is the 13th most commented front page thread out of like 50. It's a discussion that's apparently warranted.

Yes. And it shows them just fine (while unexplored areas aren't shown at all). I'm... not clear what the issue is supposed to be.

How have you guys been watching the YouTube videos. At full screen on HD quality a close match to actually playing the game. the FoW is easily identifiable from the unexplored terrain.

I was excited about it at first, but I feared it would get old eventually.

After watching a bunch of let's plays I'm already missing the old fog of war. I think it looks a bit messy, and it doesn't make any sense in the modern era.

I personally kind of like the FoW, but I could see how some problems might arise, personally I would keep regular map texture for undiscovered lands, and keep the drawn texture for locations that aren't actively monitored, but instead of the solid brown do like a colored pencil type look, to keep the style but increase readability (in my opinion)

Tons. I mean, tons. At the end of my turns, I usually pan over the entire world map, looking for anything that catches my eyes... resources, good spots for cities, new cities, good places for remote forts, paths of invasion, and so forth. Even just enjoying the scenery, at times, really.

Is there a 'world map revealed' tech or wonder?

If so, what happens to the FoW then? I think it will seem weird to have this map style if I'm making nuclear subs and silos.

Perhaps if you have the gorgeous day/night cycles disabled, then having a shadowed fog of war would be fine. But, it may be difficult to distinguish visible terrain when it's night time (or it may just look weird if it's made even darker).

I feel the same way about the default, map-like fog of war and their border style (but I love the map-like unexplored areas!), but I would much rather have the day/night cycles. I'm hoping they grow on me more as I play the game.
