FootieManager

Thanks! and well done against rayo vallecano..

I just hope to get past the gruop stage..

Last couple of games; 1-1 home vs Barcelona, top place also drew so still trail by a point and then 3-1 away vs Lyon in champions league. Im top by 5 points in my champions league group now after just 3 games so will start resting players in that instead of the league matches now.

Currently in week 38, and Im improving my squad for next tough season.

Same problem as last season. The transfer market doesn't work. The only deals people want are swap deals with no one wanting to sell players except for very old players.

The whole game doesn't work, it's total crap. I'm quitting for sure after this season. I'm pretty sure I can promote this season, so I want to finish in style.

It would be okay if they dealt with the economic situations. Clubs cannot loss money so why should you bother selling players since eventually you will be able to buy new players just by waiting. The only way cash to go out of the game is through players retiring and the replacement players being of less worth but this is balanced out by training. However attendences outweigh other costs which creates a situation with too much money and where every club wants to buy players and can afford to.

If this was fixed then the game could at least work moderately well as ultimately it would still reward people who had played the game for longer which is probably something that most people want to see. Hattrick is superior because they do make an effort to keep the economy running smoothly and teams don't make profits every single week from matches so teams actually have to work for their money through training and youth to succeed. This also means that teams will have to sell players as well as buy them unlike footiemanager.

The only area that I would give footiemanager more credit is in the layout. To me it looks better, the menus are not quite so complicated and its harder to forget where to find something. Also the league structure is nice since it copies real life which scores higher on familiarity.

*Note this is the free version of footiemanager being compared to hattrick which has all key functionality for free. I guess the pay to play version has a working economy but there is little point of having free games if they do not keep them running at an acceptable level.

Well, I just prefer Footie to Hattrick, but maybe that's because I took over in S:1 W:0 so I had all the time to make my team. In a few turns it will be S:4 and we still have a very nice market.

Hattrick is just a different thing. All I say is, to each, its own..
I got a Premier Game team in G15, and there are lots of more things than the free game.

That is the most attractive part of the game. But the game lacks any further realism. What bothers me most is the lack of transparency of the match engine.
What's very annoying as well is the huge turnover rate of managers: especially in a not-so attractive league as mine (the dutch first division, below the dutch premier league) coaches don't stay with a team for a long period. I'm fairly sure there's a mechanic that helps (re)starting managers, since these clubs get results that seem warped (in their favor): I've lost such matches v.s. inferior teams in terms of rating and (especially) color and symbol (since those are randomly changed when a team gets a new manager). Obviously new managers might play on a very high agression rate, but I've seen (and experienced) the same with managers who had previously managed many teams. These managers know that it has no use to play high agression levels. Or perhaps they're doing this on purpose, just to annoy other managers. I wouldn't be surprised. I wouldn't be surprised if those accounts are all DL of cheaters who're roaming the lower leagues for bargain players, screwing up the competition in the mean while.

I'm sure that the premier game has more to offer: undoubtly the manager turnover is lower, maybe even nonexistent. However, the basic game has nothing that could persuade me to upgrade.

I tried hat-trick a while ago but didnt like it too much, the league system ecspecially and the auction style of selling players as you would have to be online when they finished or someone would out bid you in the last second. Like Andy Ive been in footiemanager a long time so will probably always prefer it, but im going to give hattrick another go. The player friction introduced to footiemanager has to be the worst idea they have ever had though, its just not realistic the amount it happens and the effect it has on the team.

Also back at the top of the league now after winning 1-0 away against Valencia.

I agree that the auction style could be a problem but it works well because generally there is a higher concentration of players listed at night so that the bidding ends at similar times and for most types of players there will be lots of similar players all listed at the same time since the userbase is so large. You do need to be online when an auction expires but if you look at players before hand you can check when you need to be online to place that last minute bid to get the player.

The league system eventually becomes familiar and its a price worth paying to only have 8 teams per league so that a complete season only takes 16 weeks.

I've been playing FM since april 2003, hattrick since september 2003. At least in the auction style players are sold to the highest bidder. Not even that is true in FM. At least in hattrick, as long as you have placed a bid, there's a chance you might get the player.

P.S. If you want to buy a player in hattrick, it's better indeed to be online at the time of auction. You can search for players that are about to be auctioned though. And since there are currently 500,000 hattrick users...

Ive applied for a team on hat-trick, I did this about a week ago and something must have gone wrong because the password they sent me didnt work and then they said their was no user using that password. Anyway Ive just applied again, hopefully it'll work this time.

On footiemanager Im still top, beat La Coruna 2-0 at home. I lost that fixture last season and went on a losing streak. Got rid of 68 and 67 rated defenders, one of which was causing friction with another player, for a 73 rated centre back plus around £3million. Ive got money to make bids again now, I'll be trying to find someone who will sell over the next couple of weeks!

Since you are from England you should get a team very quickly. The VI leagues tend to be quite busy but never quite full and the waiting list is always short.

Just make sure you read up on the literature before you screw up. The platypus guide is probably the best description of an excellent starting strategy.

Yeah thats the link I recommend even though I didn't actually get round to reading until I had finally read up on training elsewhere. Its a useful guide although a little long. The link below is reasonably useful and so is the hattrick FAQ:

Basically don't rush buy anyone, especially not a 30 year old excellent player who is about to lose all their skills. You shouldn't need to upgrade your stadium so all you need to do is pick an area to train, buy some trainees (18 or 19 year olds should be affordable) and get a passable coach (possibly solid if you decide to train goalkeepers).

Edit: Here is a condensed training guide:

This is going to be a tough season, since I got CL. Hopefully I'll win at least the league cup..

New Players for this season: Brouwers, Branagan, Gillet and Romo (The last two I got them in a 2 for 1 swap, for the 82 21y/old att I had)

I have a 63 att on loan for 1 week, I loaned ihim to help out a Div 2 squad last season, but he wont leave Inter since he's a very good performer, he did 18 goals last season. Im selling Magoni to get another 70+ mid.

Got into canterbury team page with the prem server..

Cheers Andy, that does look quite good :D. Ive recently gone down to second after a 1-1 draw, but face top place next league match and with a win I go back top. Mid-week I play Betis in the cup who knocked me out first round when their were a league below me two/three seasons ago. Im going to experiment with tactics a little this time, they are a mid-table la lige team now.

On the hat-trick game, Im not going to try it at the moment, I dont have the time to look through the game and learn what im doing at the moment. Might join in the future when I have time to build a decent team.
