Do barbarians gained by the Clan worldspell have hidden nationality?

I ask because I can't help but notice that Sheelba cast it twenty turns ago, and now suddenly there's twenty or thirty orcs and goblins pillaging my land, moving slightly in her direction.

No, they don't. On maps with different continents, this means that The Clan commonly knows about everyone at an early age. On second thought, if they do have hidden nationality, The Clan almost always declares them for me. Sounds like you just have bad luck.

So it would seem. They completely annihilated the Luchuirp, and made the Bannor desperate enough to become the vassals of freaking Flavous. How bad does it have to be for the Bannor to prefer evil vampires? And they're still coming! I just looked in the worldbuilder, and counted another dozen wandering around. They've been building cities everywhere, so it's not gonna stop. Archeon is the ruler of what can only be described as a fully populated barbarian subcontinent.

At least this occurred after she cast For the Horde. If she'd waited a few more turns, she'd have half won the game by now.

On the other hand, thanks to all those orcs, I now have a level 15 hunter, and it's still early. Heh, I'm going to have fun taking down mages and heroes with him.

What difficulty level are you on, and is Raging Barbs on?

Warlord and yes. That's what I usually play. I've seen a lot of barbarians before, but this was so big and deliberate-seeming that I thought the AI must be targeting me specifically, and since Sheelba just cast For the Horde, I thought it must be her, and I wanted to know if I should move against her before she moved the rest of her army against me. I'm the Svarts, so it's better for me to be on the offensive.

She's still at peace with the barbs, though, even if she is in last place. I'd consider killing her anyway, but I'm wedged in between the Calabim and their new vassal, and I don't know what they'd think of it. That's a war I'm not quite ready for, yet.

If those were HN you'd be able to see the promotion on them. I'm guessing they are not.

If memory serves, the Barbarian AI is programmed to randomly choose one civ as its main enemy, and focus on targeting that civ. People tend not to notice unless that are that targeted civ.

You have a level 15 unit early, eh? I don;t suppose you know where the Ring of Carcer is, or if it is in this game? Only a unit of level 15 or more can enter this tile and capture Brigit the Shining. Although the unit trapped in the ring is strength 0, the version you capture is a very useful Immortal angel with holy strength and fire affinity. If it is still early, finding her may just win the game for you.

That'd explain why it seems like I'm being singled out.

I'm by no means losing because of it, but I am currently in second place because of it. That sucks, because the Bannor should have been my vassal. I captured a couple of griffins early on, and spent a long while harassing the Calabim. The distraction has allowed them to catch up and tech ahead of me. If not for the Horde, I'd have already taken them.

I've had the worst luck, lately. I have several Cthulhu-level victories on my record, but lately, I just can't win. My last game as the Bannor was a complete disaster in every respect. I was wiped out in little more than three hundred turns by the unlikely alliance of Faeryl, Arendel, Jonas, and Tasunke. How in the hell they ended up together, I don't know.

As long as this game turns out better than that, I'll be happy.

I don;t suppose you know where the Ring of Carcer is, or if it is in this game?

It's not, I peeked with the Worldbuilder. Oh, how I wish it was. I've never used her, but I'm guessing that I'd like to introduce the Calabim to fire angel lady in a big way.

If I were you I'd probably be tempted to just place the ring there yourself and wait a few turns for BRIGIT_HELD to spawn, but of course I have no qualms about cheating to test out new things.

I was actually pretty disappointed with her when I finally got her. Immortality is nice, but I think a unit that is so hard to get should be better. I give her Flying, command 1, Crown of Brilliance, more affinity, and let her cast Pillar of Fire.

I realized you were right. After slaughtering all those barbarians, I kinda deserved a reward, and the only reason I didn't have her was random chance, so I put Brigit in and claimed her.

A few turns after she made it back to my empire, the Calabim declared war on the Khazad to their north, and marched their whole army away from my border. With Brigit, my 15 hunter, and a group of swordsmen, I took his three largest cities, and got a no-terms ceasefire before he could react. His cities had never been pillaged, and were profitable enough to make it so I could rebuild and get my tech going. Fifteen minutes earlier, he was almost twice as powerful as me, now I was twice as powerful as him. Before long, he was begging to be my vassal. :king:

He ended up adopting Empyrean, joining the Overcouncil, crusading against the Sheaim, and summoning Basium. I guess he found religion and reformed, or something. Weird.
