any simple way to do this?

i've read somewhere that if you select a track and then buy a train it'll go on that track but tried it and didn't work.

i've been waiting until a train arrives at a station to buy a train and that works but not always..

any ideas would be appreciated.

imo: great concept, addictive, but poor execution. hope they come up with a sequel.

If you run it in 'Hard' that will work. I only had trouble once doing it because I had 3 tracks and 2 operating trains. After 5 failed attempts I put in a crossover and it finally was forced over by another train in its way.

Oh ya, 'Hard' means that 2 trains cannot slip thru each other. Medium means they will wait so long, then slip thru each other.

And no, there is no simple way other than that

actually, i'm trying to create a dedicated line between two cities. one for passengers and another for goods. i'm trying to avoid putting in any crossovers cause the AI is just too freakin idiotic.

so when you say 'hard' do you mean when 1 train just arrives at a depot and the signal light turns red whereas, medium means when it's loading/unloading?. i found that when a train arrives but haven't started unloading, a new train will start on the other track. but if it's in the process of loading/unloading the goofy AI will start the new train where it's loading/unloading even if there's a perfectly empty track right next to it.

I'd suggest putting in a parallel track between the two stations where you want a dedicated track to be. Then extend that track to where you want a new station and build a station there. Then build a train with one of its stops at the new station. Once the train is built, remove the new station from its route and voila! You have a dedicated track.

WereAllGonnaDie - what I mean is when you go to choose what map to play you set the 'Routing Difficulty' to 'Hard'. Page 17 of the manual. Then you just have 2 paralell tracks between stations. When the first train you place is at one of the stations, start the second at that station. It will be on the other track.

The crossover I had to do was a set of 3 tracks and it was a fight to get the thing to work correctly. That's the only time I had to use a crossover.
