Fanatika - Where did everybody go?
I intend to set out to our foreign embassies with this message in mind:

Turn 0
China (annoyed), Azteca (furious) - Rogue States
Renegotiate peace for their treasury (17 gold and 28 gold). I am sure Montezuma will part with gpt but given his credit history, I suggest not to.

England (polite).
A friendly nation with our support, according to the latest poll results. Let there be a straightup Right of Passage agreement between us.

Turn 4
Zulu (annoyed) - Common Neighbour.
Our ROP expires. Try to let it go, if not, go for up to 10 gold on renegotiation. If not, even deal ok.

Turn X
Greece (annoyed), Iroquois (cautious)
Try to let the ROPs slide. If they call us, go for up to 10 gold up front. Even deal is ok.

BTW, as a result of the gifts from last turn, India is now Polite with us and the Iroquois have upgraded to Cautious :) .

Sounds good to me, chiefpaco. Can you bring me back some fireworks from China?

I like it too. Can we sweeten up the Iroquois a bit more? I'd like to see our large and fierce neighbors back in the Polite zone.

Hiawatha's people have not been overly accepting in our friendly relations with them. They were annoyed with us until the last turn when they finally felt cautious about us upon receiving 2gpt in a gift. Perhaps they like our money more than our friendship.

Seeing as this gift will carry through another couple centuries, I will see if there is anything else we can do. I'm not sure we have much to give or receive from them though.

Current trading with the Iroquois:
Iro <-> Phoenatica (turns till expire)

ROP, 1gpt <-> ROP (0)

3 gpt <-> Ivory (0)

4 gpt <-> Gems (4)

11 gpt <-> Incense, Spices (7)

After looking at our trading, perhaps Hiawatha is unhappy about how much gold he is giving us. But I am not sure. Our gems deal will expire in 4 and I suggest lifting that deal to secure gems for our own people. Is there a current trade proposal?

Based on new foreign policy, emphasizing relations between us and Able Partners, I propose we give Greece a series of 1gpt deals, up to 2gpt, until their attitude is at least cautious.

They are currently in a MPP agreement with India and are close enough to abuse a ROP to use to their advantage.

I would have posted earlier, but did not realize the Domestic budget allocation was over and above current gifts.

Current Gift summary:
Iroquois - 2gpt (19 turns left)
India - 2gpt (19 turns left)
Greece - up to 2gpt (proposed)

The gifts are mainly to keep potentially dangerous nations off our back and represent but a fraction of our incoming gpt.

Since Rome is a bit behind in tech and requires our horses, I will save that proposal for next time.

Hey chiefpaco. I have a dumb question. What if we were to save that gold for ourselves (the gift gold to the Iroquois) and just offer the ivory as a gift to the Iroquois? That would please Hiawatha, plus give us the gold to gift Greece with. Can we do that?

Cyc. Not a dumb question. A good suggestion. I'd edit your post but I can not. I think that is better and should improve our relations, but have never tried something like that before. Would the trade dept object?

I also suggest gifting Rome with Magnetism as a possibility but do not know our stance on handing out tech.

Thank you, chiefpaco. That is what I normally do in a game when I have a lot of lux's I can't sell and have bad international relations. I can't see hording them when I have to worry about the guy next door who wears a Mohawk.

I just checked the trade screen and found that renegotiating the ivory could net us 33 gpt and all their 110 gold. High price for a gift so if we do, they should love us.

Do we want to forgo that much money? That is Trade dept. business. All I could suggest is to not take that much because they are a Favoured Nation.

Chiefpaco, may I humbly suggest...NEVER, take large amounts of GPT from any nation. In a private game of your own, attempt to offer an exhorbant amount of GPT to a nation for an item you really want. What happens? Will they take the gold and rake you for the GPT? No, they become insulted because you've questioned their intelligence. We do not need to break these nations, it's excess ivory that we can not sell. Be very genorous.
